Teacher and Protector

This is an old piece from 2010. Thanks to dA's new storage system, all the favorites are gone and it's being treated like a new deviation all over again.

'It wasn't often that the kargoroks would turn hostile, why now? And of all beasts, the largest is the one to cross our path!' Faheem thought to himself angrily. 'I will protect these precious children, even if I have to do it by means of sacrifice.' He lifted his arms, using his only hand to grip the opposite shoulder. From the corner of his eye, Livia and Seda began to move away from him.

"Do not run! The beast will hunt you if you stray away from my side!" Faheem yelled over his shoulder. They froze in place as he grimaced, the pain seared through his body as he forced the magic to the end of his disintegrated arm. The particles were accumulating as Midna screamed, clutching Raefi, the older girl next to her. The other children were quite frozen with fear as the beast trumpeted its gargled bellow.

It was then that the shadowy clawed hand burst forth from the empty sleeve, leaving behind a trail of particles as it raced towards the kargoroc's neck.

'When I wake, my only wish is to see their smiling faces.'

Where do I start? lol This project is something that I was truly excited for when I got started. And I'm so glad that I did it! I feel like I've been able to improve a lot because of this project. This is the first large-scale picture I've done with more than two characters~ and it won't be the last! This is officially the largest piece I've done yet! Its final dimensions are: 9086x7736 pixels, at 300 dpi. And you, dear watchers, are viewing this piece at 17% of the original size.

The characters from left to right are: Livia, Seda, Faheem, Zant, Ciel, Midna, Raefi, and Thyrn
