Solitude

Edited Jan 6th, 2025: Bringing this out of storage to celebrate Faheem's 15th anniversary!!

It's been such a long time since my last fully painted piece, hasn't it? After my elbow surgery back in November 2022, and many months of physical therapy to follow, I spent most of 2023 struggling to return to my regular painting workflow. The number of medical things I went through just last year alone is more than I've personally dealt with for myself in a long time. Never thought the stress I was under would tear apart my thyroid and that I would be diagnosed with Hashimotos, but it happened and it was rough. It happened, but I ultimately got through the worst of it.

This last year brought me and my family closer together. My best friends have been lifesaving, and genuinely the most encouraging and kind people I've ever known in my life. We mesh amazingly together as friends, and bring out the best in each other. I can say for myself especially, I feel that I've grown a lot in the last several months. Spent more time offline, spent more time even just to myself. And it's in those solitary moments I had a lot of time to reflect and heal. I'm okay. I'm getting better with time. I miss my grandmother terribly since she passed in July 2023, but I'm at peace with it right now. My friends truly gave me the safe space I needed and I'm incredibly thankful.

Find your people, find the ones you feel safest with. You can't mesh with everyone, nor will every relationship last forever, but you can still learn from all the good and bad experiences you have in life. Learn from the good and bad that you see in yourself and others, and grow from it. I've grown, and I feel like my art shows that right now Faheem as many of you know, is one of my nearest and dearest OCs, my permanent muse whom I rely on during the hard times. Finishing this painting of him finally helps me feel like I've unlocked my painting ability again. No longer do I feel scared that my elbow will be injured again, now that this is done and my arm feels perfectly okay. And it's unintentionally a remake of an older 2010 piece, which you can see here! I didn't realize til half-way through the work, that the two are so similar. Over 13 years between the two art pieces which is crazy to see but I'm thrilled about it too ^^
