This Was All I Received: The First Week
*Personal Note*
I probably shouldn’t do this.
I’ve been turning over what explanation I want to give this document ever since I received it and tried to piece it together.
I have a close friend who I primarily only know online. When I can catch him on IM we’ve had some pretty deep, fun chats about whatever the hell pops into our heads. Offline we don’t live too far apart, just a couple splat-shaped counties away from one another, but he’s got a complicated situation so he can’t travel too far from his area most of the time.
It’s fine. I have my own shit to deal with. Friendly words on a screen are
You Are Changing
I see you flooding with energy, dark and purple.
The energy pools at your feet first. It feels cool, almost moist.
It’s not anything solid or slimy but it has an unnatural hold on you.
The hair on your legs gives in to gooseflesh. Tingling and cold, the energy moves up your feet.
You hear your toes pop but you can't feel it. You just feel warmth rising above the coldness as the energy moves upwards.
The tiny sensations your legs gave you from the air moving across your thighs are gone, along with the hairs themselves.
Your legs have become thinner, more toned, and completely hairless.
The warmth rises up

Radioactive Femininity
Part 1 - "Wheat For It..."
Sometimes I hate being alone so much I just want to run screaming into the nearest crowd of people and grab hold of everyone till they all have long hair and large breasts. For anyone but me, that would be very strange.
I have what a few people call a superpower, many call a curse, and most prefer not to talk about at all. If I’m near another person for a certain period of time, something about me starts to feminize them.
I have no idea why, nor do a multitude of scientists, doctors, and religious leaders who have poked, prodded, and thrown thing

I turned to smile at my friend in the other group. In answer to my smile, he brushed aside a sleek, straight curtain of beach sand blond hair from his face and wiggled his eyebrows like twisting, dusty comets.
When I turned back, Ramirez had a different face. I jerked away and gave a sudden yelp as though an insect had just zoomed for my face. Sophia followed me with a little gasp and a pained clench of her too-white teeth.
“What that fuck, man?!” was Salvador’s squinting response. What he didn’t realize was the height he’d gained back

Part 3 – “Book at All the Thoughts I Give”
Of course, that day was a Tuesday. The world hinges on a Tuesday. That’s just how Tuesdays are. Disasters happen. Famous people die. Governments fall. But at least there are tacos.
Lunch was still nearly two hours away and my next class was far too close. Fortunately, I was mostly seated by other girls. Not that it mattered when this teacher came up with new seating charts on a whim because his efforts at saying “shh” over and over never fixed anything. I typically enjoyed English but he did his darnedest to try to smother every ounce of l

Part 4 – “Girl All the Boys”
No matter how fashionable a teen guy or girl thinks they are, just add a decade or two of distance to their style and they immediately become ridiculous. Of course, I was a lost cause even then.
I didn’t hit any thrifty punk-rock chords. Clothes that looked beat up or oversized just came across as a waste to me. And I seemed immune to the spreading contagion known as “uggs”. Let’s not discuss bracelets though.
Beyond her leather boots, Heather didn’t really dress to stand out. She often wore typical corduroy pants and a variety of short-sle

Part 5 – “I Know That Feel Bra”
Of course, those weren’t literally the last normal moments of my life but that’s not far from how my teenage self would’ve written it in her diary, if she had one. Not that I was fully aware of that kind of finality then.
I felt more I was watching it all as it played out like the mounting circumstances of a protagonist in one of the overwrought techno-thrillers I’d recently finished. This all was weird but stuff would go on. I’d have to dress for gym. My papers would all still need to be done. There would be an absurd amount of math prob

I followed him to school one day when I was very bored because he was so busy and I just felt ignored.
Ever since he was a child, I always lingered near to whisper little secrets in his little ear.
Suspect me a spirit, a ghost, or some other being, but he always felt me while never seeing.

But only a spirit out of her spirited mind would try to construct her thoughts in a particular rhyme and keep it that way without getting frustrated. Obviously, I’m not that sort.
I’m the sort who would linger beside a man from child to adulthood in a game gone on too long.
My favorite games came when it was time

Part 6 – “I She What You Did There”
Dad got home first. I stood in the hallway as he set his briefcase down.
“I don’t understand why they sent you home.”
I kept my distance from him but not so much it became suspicious. I settled into the couch I usually used and he leaned back on the other.
Rubbing his legs through his gray suit pants, my dad said, “They called me and said you were around some people who got really sick…? How they put it was very strange though….”
He verbally danced around parts of it. I let him talk a bit till he asked the eventual ques
