The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles through out the years

The Mirage TMNT Comics 1984 (Original Source)
The 1987 TMNT Animated series (A not so good series that hasn't age well but it was really cool to last for 10 seasons)
The TMNT OVA from 1996 (which doesn't count and a horrible one too)
The Next Mutant TMNT 1997 (The most abysmal series ever made)
The 2003 TMNT Animated series (The best series EVER)
The 2007 TMNT (A pretty good film don't know why it gets so much hate)
The 2012 TMNT animated series such fantastically great series
And 2018 TMNT looking forward to seeing it.

Now for all you TMNT fans I want you to respect my opinion about the 1987 TMNT animated series. I love the 80's TMNT series except I don't like what they did to it because there's so much crap and I mean a lot.

I would prefer to watch the 1st Season aka the first 5 episodes I never get tired of that season it was the best in my opinion it felt like a story, the Turtles fought rough not goofy, silly, dull, etc. and it was Anime

I can go on and say how awesome Season 1 was

as for Seasons 2-7 meh they don't seem to appeal my taste cause they were total crap except there were 2 positives I liked about Season 2 and that would be April's buddy Irma Langinstein and the Dojo master was voiced by Peter Cullen known as Optimus Prime and Murky, I have heard that Season 7 was the best.

as for the last 3 seasons aka the Red Sky episodes from what James Rolfe aka The AVGN said they had a refreshing change of pace I believe to me Seasons 8-10 are like the 2003 Ninja Turtles of the 90's.

I love the 1st TMNT movie cause it was closer to it's original source the 2nd film and the 3rd film meh.

as for the 2003 series that was the best animated TMNT series EVUH it was more true to it's original source, darker, more serious, well written episodes, etc.

the 2007 movie was pretty good but the plot or story was kinda lame.

I hope you respect my opinion and I'll respect yours.

1984 for blood violence with Daredevil similarities (including Image, IDW or and other violent tmnt comics), 2003 for adaptation of 1984 turtles' origin, 2007 for cgi but it's a meh to the comics and the rest suck (sorry no offence) I'm not interested.

I like the 2012 one better.. because the art is better and the sound , and the action! They have more things going on and it's more serious than the older one , that's my opinion but don't feel bad about this or hurt! Just saying what I think :)

Hm, I watched the 1987-series as a kid but really do not remember much (I liked it I believe, but not so much me being an actual fan or something).
Just some months ago I was very bored and watched one of the new turtles-films (the 2014 one I think) and I HATED it SOOO much Rage
I though: didn't I used to like TMNT a while back? I liked the old movies (... the first one, second and third not so much but still way better than this piece of cra#% I just watched). But wasn't there a series too?
So... the internet to the rescue, I soon found the 2003-series and I was SOOO HOOKED! Funny how fast you can watch through seven seasons if your priority-meter just got tmnt-crazy ^^*** -> so I concur on the 2003-series beeing the best ever!

I watched the 2007-movie too and I found it... meh... the animation was good, I could live with the character design (except for Splinter... -_-') but the story was sooo lame and, to be honest, this should have been a film about FOUR mutant ninja turtles not TWO! Felt like Donnie and Mikey were just there for background, totally useless... (and by that time Donnie was my favorite, so I was really pissed -_-'). I like the rooftop-fight between Raph and Leo though :D

...and sure enough I got my hands on the new TMNT-2012-series :D (Big Grin) Ok, same thing again as with the 2k3-version, only that it took me a lot longer to get used to the new design (coming from the 2k3-universe it took me real long to appreciate the new design and I still sometimes struggle...) and tune of the show (first I really hated their versions of Donnie and Mikey... now I kinda like them too). What really kills me about this series is Raph! He was my second favored turtle back in the 2k3 series and made it to place one in the first five minutes of the 2k12 show (isn't he just adorable LoveSweating a little... Blush ) And even if this series is a little too over the top crazy sometimes for my liking (with all these mutants... they're all over the town, WHY do the turtles have to hide when there are mutants EVERYWHERE???), I kinda love how the turtles are more like actual teens, getting real scared a lot of times and all with their own strengths and weaknesses (really love Leos facination with cartoon-heros and trying to mimic them while leading his brothers -> not so much approved by Raph ^^).

So, just my opinion on the TMNT-franchise I know until now. I'm actually a little sad that I hate the new movies so much, because I really would like a new GOOD TMNT movie... but the 2k12 series is still going and there are so many amazing fanfictions and comics and artwork out there I think I will be fine for a while Wink/Razz

I've absolutely come to adore the 2012 turtles! I really love how each of them have a very unique look from one another. I also love the 1987 turtles because I grew up watching them.

To be honest, I actually find the 1987 turtles the most appealing. I even appreciate the "Red Sky" episodes where they took the '87 turtles and characters that I liked and tried to make the show even more action-oriented. But even some of the more comedic episodes have their enjoyment for me as well. As for those who might say that it's not enough like the original comics for them or whatever, who's to say that a person might not like a different take on an existing property more than the source material? After all, the original comics for The Mask were very violent and gory, but as it turns out, I enjoy the more comedic incarnation from Jim Carrey a whole lot more.

I'm only indifferent about the 2003 turtles. If there was any reason why I would dislike the 2003 series in any way, it would probably be because of that Turtles Forever movie where they seemed to go out of their way to ridicule the 1987 series. And as someone who's been watching a lot of the '87 series, I think I can say that the '87 turtles were not that stupid and pathetic like they were portrayed in that movie. Still, I would rather watch the 2003 turtles than...

...the 2012 turtles. Oh, how I hate those ugly, blocky looking designs they have now. I'm not a fan of CGI either, but even the CG turtles from that 2007 movie looked better than this. It's not just the turtles though, because Alvin and the Chipmunks are also being raped by ugly CGI on Nickelodeon now as well, and I greatly prefer the 80's cartoons of the chipmunks for very similar reasons as I do the turtles. Which gets to my point on why I like the 1987 turtles the most. They have the most appeal for me, like any other cartoon would from back then, but the way older cartoons are being modernized today just sucks all that appeal out of them.

That's my opinion. Please respect it.

i used to like the 2012 version, but now i like the 2003 version better. i'v seen so many things in the 2003 version that weren't in the 2012. plus, relationship differences. its awesome! :D truly wonderful. example: casey jones and april were adults instead of teenagers. Goongala!!! lol but i like the 2012 and 2003 version equally. i'm just waiting for 2012 to get MORE EPISODES

2007's only flaw was how they treated the story, that's about it.

2003 and 2012 are my favorites.

Being a 90s kid the 1996 & 1997 Turtles were the first ones I watched.

And I'd kill for the 1984 & 2012 Turtles to meet up!

I think I'll take your opinions about the 80's series with a grain of salt. The show was not that bad and I find 'hasn't age well' comments to be a bit shallow at times.

I can see why you have the opinion about the 1987 seires. While I liked it. [I grew up on it so its a part and a big part of my child hood.] I do agree about the 2003 being the best and the 2007 movie not being as bad as everyone makes it out to be. True they could have touched up the plot alot but overall I knew what was going on.

I admit, I don't mind the 2012 reboot. I can't say I adore it, but I don't out right hate it. Though my favorite incarnation of the series will always be the 2003 series. I've only gotten to see the 2007 movie a few times but it seems ok me. The 80's version is to goofy for me, and I haven't seen any of the others.

1984: A good start for the Turtles.
1987: A horribly dated series. It was good for the time, but I'm a little in between for liking it.
1996: HELL NO!
1997: Same as above (thank you Venus XP)
2003: Undoubtly, the best out of them all.
2007: Not as bad as people make it out to be, but it's nothing too special.
2012: Once again, I'm a little in between.
And here's a new one. There's gonna be a new TMNT movie coming in 2014. I'll leave it to your own judgement.

Out of all the TMNT's ever made 2012 and 1980 are my favorites. I never really saw the 2003 series, eve though I grew up in the early 2000s The 1980s was what I grew up and will always be in my top ten favorite shows. The new 2012 turtles however kick butt, they are so awesome. Worst series ever, 1997 turtles. Never heard of the 1996 turtles though, are they like imports from Japan? They remind me of the transformers.

I love the 2012 edition! It's the main reason I've become a big TMNT fan. My favorite moment was when Leo was gazing at one of the portals after the turtles wake up from the poison gas.
"It's beautiful! Scientific term speaking."
"Well, if you love it so much why don't you marry it?"
"Do you, Leo, take this portal to be you-"
"Enough, all of you."
