Dreamland

This piece was created earlier this year as part of a charity art show benefiting a local no-kill, no-cage cat shelter (Simply Cats: simplycats.org). It was actually the first piece I've made for charity purposes and the first charity art show I've participated in.  If I remember correctly the show raised several hundred dollars, all of which went to the shelter.  I also made coloring pages featuring the lineart from this piece, but unfortunately, none of them sold.

Since I didn't have much time to create something for the show, I decided to go simple but bold.  My idea was to depict a cat sleeping among huge yarn balls, dreamland within a dreamland (using the trope of cats loving to play with yarn).  In order to draw something that wouldn't take too long but would still have visual impact, I stuck to nothing but the yarn balls and the cat, and I simplified my linework and coloring as the background receded, using bold bright colors in the fore and more pastel colors in the back.

Ink and marker on marker paper, 9x6 inches.
