Well, I decided to expand what I'd posted with this meme. Fittingly enough, given the meme's creator cited it as an example, much like IDW's original continuity and the Aligned "continuity", Galvatron isn't an upgraded Megatron -- or rather, he's not Megatron from this universe. That said, they're still related as, much like how Marvel did it, Galvatron is a reformatted Megatron from Earth-2 brought into Earth-1 by Unicron.

Both:

* Like in the original IDW continuity, the Aligned “continuity”, and One, both started life as an Energon miner named “D-16” before adopting a shortened version of the name of the Fallen, Megatronus Prime.

* Also, like most versions, they killed their respective universes’ version of Sentinel Prime.

Megatron:

* Like in the original IDW and Aligned continuities, Megatron became a gladiator and would start his rise to politics.

* Like in the Aligned continuity, he would also befriend and mentor data clerk Orion Pax, the future Optimus Prime — until the High Council showed preference for Orion, resulting in the Great War.

* Like in the IDW!2005, Aligned, and EarthSpark continuities, Megatron would eventually reform and even reunite with Optimus. In fact, Super X Kaiju Megatron has EarthSpark’s moral code, having had doubts and regrets beforehand, with the only change as to what solidified his Heel-Face Turn being the War of 1996.

* Like in the Aligned continuity, his reformation came with him attempting to disband the Decepticons, only for it to land on deaf ears and the army to continue.

* His voice actor would be Rory McCann.

Galvatron:

* Like Galvatron II in the Marvel continuity and his counterpart in Dreamwave’s Armada comic, he’s from another universe — in this case Earth Cybertron-2 — and was plucked into Earth Cybertron-1 by Unicron to serve as one of his heralds.

* His general backstory on Cybertron is based on One, whereas his transformation into Galvatron is similar to The Transformers: The Movie, and the aforementioned Galvatron II and DW!Armada: A badly-injured Megatron being reformatted into Galvatron by Unicron in his own universe.

* Like in Dreamwave’s Transformers/G.I. Joe, he and the Decepticons were involved in World War II thanks to Cobra — though this version actually survives.

** During World War II, his alt-mode was a Panzer IV.

* Like when Megatron is reformatted into Galvatron in TF: TM, Galvatron’s first act when he arrives in Earth Cybertron-1 is to kill Earth Cybertron-1!Starscream and take over the Earth Cybertron-1 Decepticons

* Whereas Earth Cybertron-1 Megatron shares his EarthSpark’s Megs’s moral compass, Galvatron, even as Earth Cybertron-2 Megatron, is morally more along the lines of Regeneration One and War for Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron/Rise of the Dark Spark!Megatron.

* It was Galvatron, not Megatron, who encoded the message on the Golden Disk that leads Beast!Megatron on his mission to go to travel back in time and change the past.

* His voice actor would be Jason Marnocha (the Prime Wars Trilogy series and the War for Cybertron Trilogy series).

UPDATE (12/09/2025): Inspired JBHX1985's comment, I decided to go the Marvel route of Galvatron being an alternate universe Megatron.

UPDATE (06/10/2026): Finally decided to expand on this about the characters themselves.

UPDATE (07/09/2026): Decided to change voice actors for Galvatron and talk about his alt-mode in WWII.
