Faith
She was wandering around and smiling. Watching other wolves have a good time. Faith was having a good time. She was learning new things. She talked with her mother some here and there. Tried to convince Yasu to join in the festivities over sitting and staring at everyone.
But alas her mother was stubborn. She wouldn't leave her perch all night. And while Faith could understand her mother being on edge she would have rather had more fun as a family. It bothered Faith that her mother's job took up all her time. It always was wake up, go to work, go to bed. Rinse and repeat. Faith knew her mom was exhausted all the time and so was her dad. Everyone was so exhausted all the time. Where did all the fun go? Even her siblings started working. What about her?
Faith wondered if Yessenia, Dastan or Anju felt the same way about their mom but she didn't know how to ask them yet, or if she even had the heart to ask them. What if she didn't like the answer? Or what if they got upset that Faith felt that way?
She tried not to think about it too much. Just like her mom she swallowed.
After a while of talking to others and dancing Faith needed space to herself so she went off into a small corner. She wasn't too far from everyone but she was tucked away enough that others wouldn't have noticed her unless they really looked. She just needed some space for a short while.
Unknown to Faith her mother, the Melchior of Xassa was talking to another wolf of another pack. And she didn't notice until voices started getting loud.
She pricked her ears and tried to listen but she wasn't sure what was going on. She could see Yasu and this wolf talking close to the caves. And then she heard her call their Cyrus over. Faith tried not to be nosey but couldn't help herself as she tried to listen. Melchior Yasu was frustrated and so was this other wolf. They seemed to have been arguing for a while and Faith was confused.
Suddenly another wolf entered the conversation and now they were all tense at each other and the young adult could feel her fur bristling. Was there gonna be a fight? They didn't seem to agree with each other? She tried to pick up what Ramman was saying and Bentwood but it all seemed muffled.
Out of nowhere it seemed, Bentwood's words echoed loud and clear through the Tell.
“GRAYARD WE’RE LEAVING”
Ramman announced his end and she was left shocked.
What just happened? Did she hear things right? Was this cottonwood wolf entering the caves? Did they enter the caves? Not even Faith was allowed to enter as she's untasked. At least it wasn't punishable by death anymore. We're the festivities over now?
The young wolf shook her head in disbelief. She looked at her mom who seemed disturbed by the whole thing. Faith then followed the others who gathered around and placed her nose at her mother's side.
“Are you alright, mom?” She asked lightly, not really expecting an answer at the time. “I'm sure it'll be alright.” Faith added hearing her father mention Yasu was just doing her job.
How could something so nice and fun seem so soured? Faith was tired of all the back and forth bad things. She was sure all of Xassa was.
