I've been hearing the word immigrant a lot when we 'Americans' talk about Asian, Mexican, and South American people who move here. Quite frankly, I'm appalled by this word. If we were to use the word 'immigrant' effectively, we would all be immigrants. Just because we shed some blood and wrote down on a piece of 'official' paper that we own this territory, it doesn't make everyone else immigrants. Technically, we are all immigrants. Only the Native Americans (Cherokee, Andean, Mayan, etc.) have the right to call anyone an immigrant. They were in the Americans before we even rediscovered that the Earth is a sphere.
