colouring [tips] by AngelKite colouring [tips] by AngelKite
just a quick and simple outline to how I choose colours ;;
download for a larger view if needed

It's not meant to be comprehensive, just doing the quick "guide at a glance" thing like my other guides!
will be doing a hand part #2 soon, focusing on the shapes that make up the hand /o/

hope it helps someone out there, even just a little! ovo

Disclaimer: This is just how I do it; some people out there prefer using darker shades of the base to colour, or they prefer using saturated colour to achieve a bright neon effect. It's ultimately up to you!

thanks for viewing ^^

====

Edit: to avoid any future misunderstandings, this is only how I colour. Please don't take it as me saying this is the only way, or the right way. Some watchers were just asking how I colour/choose colours, hence why I made this.
I have tons to learn myself, and I think I've only scratched the surface. You are free to colour however you want I am a dummy!

If you read what I wrote in the drawing itself, I said that people can experiment by adding colours from the environment since shading also depends on the environment :)
also if you read the description of the drawing, I added this:

You are free to colour however you want; my style isn't any more "right" than yours. Some of my watchers were just asking for how I colour/ choose colours hence I made this :)

Your chosen color has the value of almost 100% white.

In the square the circle is almost at the top. That vertical black to white is the value. and it is almost 100% white. You have three types: hue, saturation and value. The hue is the rainbow circle, saturation is from full color to white and the value is the brightness, so the black to white. If I say it is almost 100% white means it is almost at the top.

well that would depend on the skin tone, right? xD someone who has a darker tone will have a darker colour. I prefer choosing a mid-range tone (towards the middle of the square) so the colour isn't too dull haha.

I learned from Aaron Blaise, that you use a base color with a value of 30%-70%. Because it has to have light areas and shadow areas on to. I paint the light with a yellowish-white. The images look pretty dark though.

depends on what colour you're trying to achieve, no?
doesn't make sense when colouring lighter or pale skin tones in a lighted environment haha

yeah, sometimes having too varied a colour to shade looks odd! Instead you can just change the hue slightly, so it's a more purplish-blue when shading blue, or an amber when shading yellow for example ^^

best of luck!!:D

haha I just replied your forum post actually! xD
hope this helps too!!

ah, I don't create a palette; I just go with what looks good to my eyes! And when shading I always change the hue on the colour wheel so it doesn't look dull haha

HAHA I think it's cause the shading of his hair is more orange than a darker shade; I changed the hue and forgot to change it back to the darker shade ;u;
yes, indeed! ovo

ahh hope I can explain it well xD gonna try the wrists too!

happy to hear! ;; There's honestly so much more to colouring but it would become way too lengthy and I dunno how to put a lot of it into words to be honest xD

I'm glad you're experimenting more!! it's fun using varied colours ^^
