Man the expression in the final frame of this is so creepy!!! Definitely in line with the original tale!

i like that u used 'rapunzel' as the name for the fruit. & the woodcut style strangely suits the tale; it has a dark foreboding feel from the start. yummy! do go on

I think it's a little known fact that Rapunzel got her name from the rampion plant which her mother became obsessed with eating. Hopefully people don't misunderstand that she wants to eat Rapunzel the person instead of a plantXD (the next scene will hopefully keep that distinction clear).

I'm definitely a fan of this black and white style too, which is odd considering how colorful my entire gallery is. This method really returns to my roots. Back when I first learned how to draw, I did nothing but ink works (most of which I've recently uploaded in that rash of b&w images of old comic book stuff, if you recall the devwatch flood)

In any case, I'm glad you're following this comic. I'm always afraid that my black and white work will slip to the wayside because it's just not as pretty and shiny as my colored stuff.

haha! eating rapunzel the person...hahaha!

(hmmm....gets macabre ideas) :D

i like B/W works very much, actually - good ones, anyway (like most of ur inkwork). colours r good for expressing a certain range of moods, or sometimes as medium of expression all their own. then again, B/w communicates through form, or through the textures of the linework...it also has a sort of purity. so really, there's no way one can say which one has an advantage....and its a kinda pointless debate IMHO.

from which part of the world did Rapunzel (as we know it, more or less) originate? i know that Cinderella has Celtic roots (if u look at the original Ashputtle), and Beauty & the Beast was French (again, more or less; most fables are influenced by various cultural influxes anyway).... and tales of giants were popular in Scotland & certain parts of Britain. i'm guessing from little nuggets here & there in ur previous works, u have quite a bit of knowledge of fairy tales. i'm into them myself, only recently started looking up my favourite stories...

Oh yes indeed. I've been fascinated by fairy tales since I was a small child and these old stories continue to inspire me today (particularly the Brothers Grimm, whose hometown we lived nearby when I was in Germany). Rapunzel has many renditions, but the oldest known of the traditional telling is collected by the Grimms and as far as I know is German in origin. It's always been one of my favorite tales next to Fairy Tell True, The Maiden With No Hands, and Sleeping Beauty.

ahhhhh the maiden with no hands... yes (fond memories, albeit a bit dark)

and the girl who quite literally danced her feet off? what was it - the Red Shoes? :)

Aah yes I think that was the Red Shoes. I haven't read that one in a long time, but I recall an illustration a friend of mine did to that story of red shoes with the ankles cut off.

Yay morbid inspiration.

Love how your handling this. I don't have any advice other than to keep experimenting. Looks like you're going in the right direction :)
