As they say, “all good things must come to an end”. So it is with a bit of sadness that I have to announce that this version of the Angel Falls group will become inactive starting November 1st. The group will not be deleted, but will no longer take on new members, accept new submissions or posts of any kind. I hope these 45 days will be enough time for anyone to complete any on-going stories or projects before the group goes idle.
These actions have been caused by a number of factors. Chief among them is that I no longer have the available time to run the group and feel it is unfair to impose that duty on anyone else. Looking at the level of activity within the group I think this is a good time to close this chapter of the Angel Falls saga. When this group was started years [ yes, 9 years!!] ago, I never dreamed it would grow and enjoy the success that it did. But it is the nature of the internet and all things within it to change, grow, evolve, and eventually pass away.
So, what will happen to all the work contained within the group’s galleries? I do not plan to delete anything already in existence. The work contained there will remain as long as the individual contributors allow it to remain or until DA deletes the group for good. So links to material within the group will hopefully remain working for some time to come. Should someone want to continue the Angel Falls story, it can hopefully serve as an archive and source of inspiration.
Speaking of the future of Angel Falls, the setting remains available to storytellers to use if desired. Obviously the need to get permission from the creators of original characters would still need to be obtained, but the environment of Angel Falls is there if desired for a setting. If there is enough interest among current members, I encourage you to consider making a new chapter of Angel Falls, with a new group that interested parties can make to suit their own desires for the group. In the remaining time for this group anyone interested in forming a new era Angel Falls group should feel welcome to use this group’s journal/blog to communicate any plans for making a new group.
Finally, let me offer a personal thank you to everyone who has made the Angel Falls group a success over the years. All of the members, artists, writers who have been an integral part of this group, I appreciate you all so much. To those people who so kindly volunteered to help out as moderators, the lion’s share of the credit for the success of this group belongs to you. It simply could not have run without you and your efforts. Thank you so very much!
So in closing, let me say I could have never suspected what the simple idea of Angel Falls would have grown into. It was a rare and genuine pleasure to get to meet and collaborate with so many talented people.
