Flat GIMP icon Theme V 2.1

The Flat GIMP icon Theme was created to modernize GIMP and keep people focused on their art.  I have heard it all over the web that GIMP is ugly and I wanted to change that.

I personally like Darker themes but others Like lite themes, many people asked for a smaller theme just like GIMP comes with so I made those to. I think that GIMP is an amazing program that many people don't even give a change because it does not look a pretty as Photoshop.

special thanks to :iconknozos: maker of the DPixel theme for help with theme,  :iconzzdas: maker of the minimo for small theme text, Eckhard M. Jäger maker of the ProGimp theme for the idea of colored icons, :icondoctormo: maker of PsIcons themfor getting rid of tool box lable and help with gtkrc, :iconmigf1: for some help with making v2 of my theme, Mirek2's flat icon concept from LibreOffice and the GIMP dev team. all of you really helped make this theme.

Check out my interview with the Jupiter Broadcasting crew over on YouTube and here me talk about this theme.  Big thanks to them for letting me on the show.  If you do not already know about Jupiter Broadcasting and are a big nerd you should go check them out here or on their YouTube Channel here.

Just extract the .zip and place it under the  GIMP themes folder:

* Linux: Copy the Theme you want and the Decor folder into ~gimp-2.8/themes

* Mac: Copy the Theme you want and the Decor folder into Aplications > Right Click Gimp and select Show Package Contents > Contents > Resources > Share > gimp > 2.0 > themes

* Windows: Copy the Theme you want and the Decor folder into C:\Documents and Settings\{YourUsername}\.gimp-2.4\themes or C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\themes\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\themes\

NOTES:  11-16-2014: I have completely rewrote these 8 themes. You now will get along with the 8 icon themes a folder called "Decor". This folder needs to be placed in your Themes directory in-order for V2 and on to work.  Icons and gtk.rc files have been moved there to conserve data for you. V1 was very memory inefficient. All the icons are now located in a icons folder in the "Decor" folder and all themes link to it instead of having their own set of icons.

I am moving to major.minor.patch versioning of Flate GIMP icon Theme. Current version is now 1.0.0. So now you can check back and see if I have made an update. To find out what version you have the zip file will have the version, you can also find this in the read me that comes with the Theme.

I added icons for GIMP 2.10 but commented them out in the imagerc. so if you are using GIMP 2.10 you can uncomment out the unified transform tool, warp tool, align horizontal fill(hfill in doc) and vertical fill(vfill in doc).

I have also been updating some icons here and there. The crop tool, free select tool and others have all been updated. So check back often I may release a silent update.

So DA has changed things a bit. The download arrow is now underneath the main preview image above the Flat Gimp Icon Them title.

I tried getting your themes to work with the theme selector in Gimp 2.10.14 and they do not work. Is it possible for you to update the themes for GIMP 2.10.14 and beyond? I'm using Windows 10, 64 bit.

I am so sorry but I have not touched this theme in a very long time and don't really know where to start. The best place would probably start over and redesign the theme. I don't know when I will have time for that. I am not surprised that the theme no longer works.

Do you mind *bumping* them either way?

I do not know if they are still valid but whenever I get time to update my theme I will try to remember to bump those.

I really would like to create themes with different colors. This was the plan a few years ago but after graduation, I started looking for jobs and have not had time to update this.

I have no idea how to set the theme dark. I extracted the folder and my theme is located at `~/.config/GIMP/2.10/themes/Flat Icon Theme`. When I go to gimp settings, I see only on theme and it's the light one.

Can you make some understandable installation instructions please? They are all over the place. In one part it's told to just extract the theme but later down it says that I also have to copy the Decor folder to `/themes/`and 8 icon themes...what? Is this a problem on my end or the instructions have not been updated accordingly?

I am sorry that my instructions did not make any sense to you. I probably updated the theme at one point and forgot to update the instructions. If I remember right the Decor folder and the different themes need to be in your gimps /themes/ directory.

My absolute favourite theme for Gimp, thank you~

A lot less of a headache to get working in Windows than I remember it being when I originally used it. Comment on here helped with the only issue I encountered.

Sorry for not getting back to you. You probably already figured this out but if you look under the image you should see for buttons on the left click the one with a down arrow pointing to a line.

Is there a way to make gray (or black) go white? Or any other color I want?
android272's avatar

So yes you can make the theme whatever color you want. Depending on what you're talking about background or icons determines on how hard it will be. I tried to make it as easy as possible to change either but it has been a while since I messed with this and it might take me a little bit to navigate things. What would you like todo?

Hi, Just downloaded it, it'll be easier on my eyes but how as you say make it any colour you want?

I am not sure what you mean?  How do you change the background colors or the icons?
RONNY769's avatar
Thanks for responding! I loved the themes and icons, I use the Light Blue Small, basically I would like to use a white theme with the same icons, something like "White Blue Small", replacing the gray color with the white color.
