Never before seen Frederick Douglass photo by Android-shooter Never before seen Frederick Douglass photo by Android-shooter
I haven't mentioned it lately but I love the history in my city. Rochester N.Y. is not what it used to be, but it still has a lot of history. Today I went to an event at the main branch of the library. I saw a screening of a new film about Frederick Douglass and his time in Rochester (25 years) writing his paper The North Star, and how he used his photography skills to relay messages in support of the Abolition Movement. The film that will be at some Indie film fests in about 3 months. Here's is a short clip: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOJBSR…

Anyway all of this started from a picture that was found in the library archives. When a woman brought it to the attention of someone in the history department, it was noticed quickly. It turns out this photo was never seen. Research began and it turns out the origin is possibly Michigan 1873, it's 8.5x7 inches in size. Before this image surfaced there were 160 known photos of him, which makes Mr. Douglass the most photographed person of the 19th century.

The film had been in a couple workshops, and was open to everyone today. The image found was on display, so I took a picture of it. Hope you enjoy it.
