At the Mountains of Madness

Friuli nord-orientale, Carnico. Una giovane femmina di etosauro, alla sua prima gravidanza, ha intrapreso l’ardua migrazione verso i siti di nidificazione meridionali. L’inesperienza l’ha portata sul sentiero più ostile; qui basse catene di rilievi vulcanici si sollevano sulle coste dell’oceano Tetide, riversando a valle torrenti di lava ardente. La paura è vinta dal forte istinto della madre: i soffici terreni carbonatici che custodiranno le sue preziose uova, e quelle di numerose altre femmine della sua specie, si trovano solo pochi chilometri più a sud di questo regno di fuoco.

North-eastern Friuli, Carnian. A young female aetosaur, in her first pregnancy, has undertaken the arduous migration towards the southern nesting sites. Inexperience has led her onto the most hostile path; here, low chains of volcanic reliefs rise up on the coasts of the Tethys Ocean, pouring torrents of burning lava down the valley. Fear is overcome by the mother’s strong instinct: the soft carbonate soils that will guard her precious eggs, and those of numerous other females of her species, are located only a few kilometers south of this kingdom of fire.
