So, I see a lot of awesome stuff on deviant art and I am often tempted to buy the versions in higher resolution or ... a variant of the theme *nudgenudgewinkwink*, but it seems the way many people market their stuff is through patreon. In itself, it is not a bad idea.
What I find silly is that usually only the works of a running term will be available on patreon. This means there is no way to access older works. Also, it incentivises people to subscribe by creating fear of missing out on artwork of another term. I am not cool with that. Then I will just not subscribe to a patreon. It's dirty tactics of advertising. If I support you through patreon, I want access to all prior work.
This is why I think I would be much happier to buy stuff, if I could just get it for a one or two bucks a piece. A bit like you can buy mp3s on some sites.
Many times I have been tempted to subscribe to a patreon on deviantart and youtube, but I never went through with it, because I found it either overpriced or because of the above laid out problem: I want access to all the work, not just the current term.
EDIT: Edited for typos and style.
