As a depiction of one of Tolkien's Dwerrows (his plural!), this has the right look and feel to it, down to the shaggy pony!

I take it with this you'll be sticking with the original (awesome) story as opposed to the butchered movie version? ... All I know is, I'm betting your depiction of the cliff-top wolf/orc vs dwarf "fight" will be badass.

What an imposing Thorin. A bit bright to be Mirkwood. Oldforest perhaps?

Aside from the subdued, atmospheric lighting and the level of immersive detail, which are no small achievements, your rendition of the dwarves is particularly impressive, a blend of the traditional, gnome-like dwarves of fairy tales and the sturdy warriors heroic fantasy has accustomed us to. More Niebelungen than Trollslayers, they give a Nordic feel to the piece and thus probably make it a perfect fit for Tolkien's book.

Amazing! Your illustration are exactly what I saw in my mind when I read "The Hobbit" for the first time.
I still can't equalize Jackson's film with a book, their personages are completely separate in my mind.

Good job, well done.
I love the surrounding area art, assuming it's not Mirkwood.

I doubt it would be Mirkwood, it's far too bright. but I agree, the surrounding art is beautiful.
