Group Info

We're a group dedicated to the primitive, lesser-known creatures from the Paleozoic to the early Mesozoic era. This includes animals such as trilobites, synapsids, early fish and amphibians, and primitive dinosaurs.

**The time period this group focuses on is the Cambrian (approx. 542 million years ago) to the end of the early Jurassic (Toarcian, approx 175 million years ago).**

Group Rules:

1. Make sure you are submitting to the right category, and that your art depicts a creature or creatures from the allotted time period. Don't take it personally if your art is moved or deleted, it just means the animal wasn't from the appropriate era or it wasn't placed in the right category.

2. The timeline is somewhat expendable, in that, say, if a species is one that may have lasted from the very tail end of the early Jurassic into the mid Jurassic, it would be allowed. But creatures that are obviously strictly occurring either before or after the span of time I've decided upon, would not be accepted.

3. Don't harass or troll other members...pretty self explanatory.

4. I don't intend for this to be an elitist group and will welcome most skill levels, but I do expect a certain level of artistic ability be demonstrated in anything submitted here. Quality control is entirely at the discretion of the admins. For an idea of what will be accepted, look in the main galleries.

5. Only serious attempts are allowed in the main galleries. We have folders for cartoons, comics, sketches and the like. Submit everything else there.

6. No fanart.

If you are unsure whether your submission fits the group focus, look up the names of the animals featured in your work. Wikipedia is an excellent resource, and typically lists the age extinct animals lived in within articles.

Because I haven't added anything new to the featured gallery in.....forever, I decided to promote a bunch of submissions to that folder today. Art from Plioart, Vitor-Silva, Malvit, Fluffysminion, and OCoffeBlackO has been featured. You all get imaginary cookies! Sorry, I cannot afford to send you actual cookies. :) -Mergus

My deviation of Antarctanax Shackletoni (Antarctanax) has not been accepted despite me submitting to the sketches and WIPs gallery. I’ve noticed that two lots of deviations have been accepted, though. Do you not want my deviation? And if so, why have you not declined it?

My deviation of the Carboniferous Czech Republic (link here: Synapsid swamp) keeps on being declined. I have tried submitting it to both synapsids and amphibians. Why is it being declined?

I submitted 3 deviations to this on the 13th. I made sure that the creatures in them were in the right time periods (the first one had Inostrancevia, Vivaxosaurus and Procynosuchus, the second and third Placerias and Gojirasaurus) but no-one has accepted them yet. Is it just that no-one has looked at them or have they been denied for some reason?

Why is it only dinosaurs from the Triassic and Early Jurassic here .. and not Cretaceous? I just ask since most of my art its about Cretaseous period.

In my opinion Cretaceous dinosaurs get plenty of attention, in this group I wanted to focus on lesser known, primitive dinosaurs and other creatures within the group's time frame.

When we started the group we felt that it would be cool to focus on the older, less "glamorous" prehistoric fauna that don't get as much attention in art or popular culture. We didn't want to become a general "dinosaur art" group as there are a lot of those already, hence why we decideed limit the group to featuring dinosaur artwork depicting older taxa.
