Thanks for the link. I couldn’t try it out because they have no Linux version but I read their documentation. [link]

However, their dropdown menu (they call it tableau) doesn’t perform searches, which is the point of my dropdown menu. Instead, it shows you the most visited sites (similar to Chromes Most Visited Page) as an overlay menu. Also, if I am not mistaken, the way they handle (new) tabs is nothing you cant already do in Firefox, Chrome or many other browsers.

So, they don’t do anything new really, but if they can provide fast and secure browsing, then that’s not bad either. Thanks, anyway.

Thanks for the link. I am running Opera on Linux but your config files still worked pretty well. Nice job, by the way, you couldn’t have got much closer to my screenshot visually. Now they just need to implement the functionality as well...

As for the wrench icon, don’t pay too much attention to it. It would allow you to switch to a toolbar providing advanced functionality. You wouldn’t need it to do any of your day-to-day browsing tasks (opening links in a new tab, bookmarking pages, or saving links). You would do all that just by dragging and dropping. Anyways, thanks.

By the way, I just installed Opera, as you suggested, but I couldn’t get it to do anything I describe above really.

Yes, you can drag and drop links onto a vertical tabbar, although you have to start dragging them up or down first, instead of to the right, which is rather counter-intuitive and just makes the whole process unnecessarily slow. However, this is not exactly my point. Dragging and dropping links onto a (horizontal) tabbar or your bookmarks folder is something you can already do, f.i., in Firefox.

The main idea is that your browser will bring up the tabbar or the sidebar "automatically" as soon as you start dragging the link to the left or right and then close it again, if you don’t set up a different behavior. Also, I have tried a few browsers after that (Chromium, Firefox, Midori) but neither would let me drag and drop links from the address bar dropdown menu or onto a downloads folder. So, browsing the web entirely via dragging and dropping (and that’s the point of my idea, really) isn’t possible with any of today’s browser but anyway, thanks for the hint.

Thanks for your comment. Those are good questions. The Menu button would unfold the menu vertically instead of horizontally. You can have the same kind of menu in Firefox via add-ons. The slider is a zoom slider, allowing you to zoom in and out on a web page, and the wrench icon would allow you to manually switch to a toolbar that would temporarily take the place of the location bar, which would save vertical space. I have explained the reasoning behind this in detail in my Neo master document but I didn’t want to show and explain it here because the description could have become too long.
