Psychonauts OC-Artist by AMX-269 Psychonauts OC-Artist by AMX-269
Eh...I've been watching Psychonauts movies on YouTube for a while now, and this character just popped into my head.

Here's what I have so far: his name is Artist; just Artist (or Art for short). He is psychic, but his powers are limited to his imagination. Luckily, Artist has a very vivid imagination; all he has to do is wet his brushes, and he can will his paintings to life if he wants (the things in his hand and on the sash are paintbrushes). Also, although you can't see it in this drawing, his left eye is supposed to be blue, and his right eye is hazel.

Because of a traumatic incident in his life (I'm still trying to figure out what kind), Artist has been living by himself in a secluded area. He's basically fine on his own, with one exception: as you can see, he desperately needs a haircut...

I like Art. :D He seems like quite the character. And oh the possibilities for his past woes...

Mind if I try to give a go at what they might be? :D If you don't mind that is.

Hey, I'm open to any suggestions. After the way you helped me with Kala's profile, I'd be more than happy to hear your ideas for Artist. :D

Alrighty then! :D Here goes nothing.

(Is this okay for his ful name: Artist Amadeaous Amtueos?)

Ever since he was a little boy, Artist has always had a love for art. Having an artist for a mother might have had something to do with it, but it also may just be the fact he just loves the feel of a paintbrush between his fingertips. Who knows?

At age 5, he picked up his first brush and canvas, and created what his parents considered a wok of art, if it was only just a simple scribble of blue over two red oblongs. At age 7, his skills became more and more profound, both in art and in his psychic powers.

He surprised his parents at age 10 when he brought his painting of a black ninja fighting a white ninja to life. His mother, being the open minded and kind soul she was, learned to accept her sons abilities, but the feeling wasn’t mutual from his father.

One day, when Mr. Amtueos went out to pick up Chinese food, 11 year old Artist and Mrs. Amtueos waited for him to return. And waited. And waited. And waited. It wasn’t until three days later that the mother and child had come to realize that Mr. Amtueos wasn’t coming back with their Kung Pow chicken and Mushu pork.

Life was never the same for the two after Mr. Amtueos left. Being an artist, it was hard for Mrs. Amtueos to make a living (with her spontaneous bouts of creativity or lack thereof and all that) and not to mention keep food on the table. She even had to force her only child to endure moving from town to town as she did odd jobs to make up for her failing career in art. She tried to be strong and keep smiling for Artist, but it was clear to him that she was suffering. Artist hated it that his mother was trying to stay so strong for him and try so hard to make ends meet when she was clearly unable to endure this for much longer.

One day as Artist was walking the streets of Savanna, Georgia, the location of Mrs. Amtueos’ most recent customer and part time job at the McBurgermyster, that he found a pamphlet for a certain psychics summer camp in the trash. This was the solution to all his problems. If he could find a job in becoming a Psychonaut, he and his mom would never have to worry about money troubles ever again, and Mrs. Amtueos could finally stop trying to put the weight of her family on her shoulders.

Having saved up plenty of money from his allowance, Artist left for Psychonauts summer camp, but not before leaving a last farewell note on the seat of his mother’s overly used Station Wagon. The note said, “Gone to try and put my skills to good use. Will be back as soon as I can. I love you mom, Artist.”

What do you think? :D

:hmm: Hmm...well, first of all, I can tell you put a lot of thought into this (and I do like that name). And I suppose I should consider the idea that Artist's dad walked out on him and his mother. Separation is a touchy subject, and I'm guessing it could hit some kids harder than others.

Anyway, I've been coming up with a few ideas of my own: I was thinking that, in a potential storyline, Raz could find Artist living as somewhat of a recluse (perhaps his father's walking out on them causes him to feel guilty and ashamed?). I've even been juggling with the idea that Artist felt so much inner stress that he somehow falls into a coma (can that happen?).

Think we could figure out a way to put these ideas together? I like the general theme of your story, and maybe I could add a few ideas of my own.

Oh please do add some of your own ideas! :D I'd love to see how they can be integrated into his backstory. (and besides, he is your character after all. XD You do have enough leverage to make him whatever you please).
