AMX's Thoughts-The Big Fairy Share Scare by AMX-269 AMX's Thoughts-The Big Fairy Share Scare by AMX-269
Honestly, I'm not quite sure how to feel about this episode. It wasn't really bad in the way "Fairly Odd-Baby" or "Fairly-Odd Pet" was bad, but at the same time...there were some definite flaws. But one thing I'd like to point out first, regarding Mr. Enter's review: he claimed Timmy being "an utterly selfish asshole" about sharing his fairies in this episode was out-of-character for him. Well, considering that at least one movie (which may or may not be canon) was about Timmy willingly acting like a kid even well into his early 20s just to bypass Da Rules and keep his fairies, I don't see this as necessarily out-of-character for him. It makes him look really, really bad, yes, but not out-of-character.

But then...there's Chloe. Yeah, they try to give her a sympathetic reason for needing to have fairies, and yet in the grand scheme of things, she doesn't seem too miserable. Nearly everyone she comes in contact with loves her, she lives in a big house with plenty of fancy stuff to play with, and she's completely altruistic and unselfish. Uh huh. I'm not saying that ten-year-olds are all little selfish brats, but I'm sure anyone agree that most kids that age wouldn't act like Chloe does. Now, if she were privately a nervous wreck because she's expected to appear perfect all the time and do everything right, her inclusion might have been a bit more believable. But right now, I think fans are more than justified in calling her a Mary-Sue. She mostly seemed to be there to be "the polar opposite of Timmy Turner" (actual line from the episode), once again making Timmy the butt of the joke. And to be perfectly honest, I'm starting to think Missy (remember her?) is actually a much better character than Chloe, at least in how she's presented. Aside from the birds constantly following her around, Missy isn't really portrayed as unbelievably perfect or has a bunch of people fawning over her; she's just a kind, pretty girl whom Timmy has a crush on. Yeah, we didn't get to see a lot of character from her, but at least that was a little more believable.

Speaking of jokes, you can tell that the writers are trying way too hard with the pop culture references. The "duck lips" joke wasn't really funny the first time, and it's not funny the fifth or sixth time either. Also, I can't help but be a little baffled about the writers constantly putting Timmy's dad in dresses. Are they trying to say Timmy's dad is trans without actually saying it? And if they are, are they trying to make it some sort of joke? That trans-women are just really stupid men who can't possibly be a productive members of society? Because if that's the way someone interprets it...hoo boy, Butch Hartman might have to brace himself for some strongly-worded letters.

So...yeah. If FOP wasn't on thin ice before, it definitely is now. The way they butchered the opening doesn't help its case either.

"Tried to give her a sympathetic reason for needing fairies?" Timmy's life is completely messed up with inattentive parents, an evil babysitter and a crazy teacher. Chole has great parents, everyone loves her and she doesn't need a babysitter. How was this okay?!

I have really mixed feelings on this episode as I can see why a lot of people hated it.

I have mixed feelings about this new character.  The first half of the episode was boaring and horriblely cliche.  Just Mary sue doing mary sueish things.  But then it happened.  We got to see the psychotic side of Chloe.  Seeing this clingy, psychotic, deprate for a true friend character gives me some hope.  I hope they focus of that rather than using her as a female insert character.  Cause if she can't be interesting, she can at least be fun and psychotic.

Then she would be Sparky. If you saw the second episode, you might prefer her as a naive newcomer.

Maybe, but I've always found Sparky more annoying than crazy.  When I talk about Chloe's psychotic side, I'm talking about when she was freaking out over having godparents or when she started getting really clingy when she got a friend.  That is fun crazy as oppose to Sparky's "say stupid random stuff and hope the audience mistakes it for comedy" gimmick.

I just realize that all these characters were made to make Timmy the straw man

Initial reaction by fans: "God is dead and we have killed Him!"

My reaction: "I've seen worse."

I may have to do a rant on why Mary Sue is an outdated and useless term to begin with, but Chloe is kind of annoying regardless.

There were funny moments like the ending and some jokes were good, but it still reeks of desperation! So I'm not sure what to call it.

Also, what happened to Sparky? I haven't watched the show in years and only saw Mr. Enter's review of his intro episode, so I don't know.

Well, considering Sparky didn't appear in every Season 9 episode, I didn't see a problem with him being absent from this episode. Poof wasn't there too, but at least he has the excuse of going to school himself.

According to Sparky's voice actor, because Sparky got so much negative feedback, they just removed him from the show.

That right there should tell you that the show's been overstaying its welcome.

Honestly, I didn't hate Sparky too much, but I could definitely see why other people did. It didn't help that his first episode was really, really bad. If it weren't for Timmy and his family's bad track record with pets, and the fact that Sparky was being extremely manipulative, that episode might have been more tolerable. But either way, it was definitely around that point when it felt like FOP's dead horse was being beaten just as hard as SpongeBob's.
