During his playthrough of "Bayonetta" on his "YoVideogames" channel, Maximilian Dood mentions that his wife loves the titular Umbra Witch as a character, due to her being extremely powerful, yet not afraid to show off that she's a woman who is interested in more "girly" activities (namely, shopping). In a way, I think this could also apply to Sam, Clover, and Alex (though they're obviously more kid-friendly). Think about it: most episodes make it clear that the girls are into more "girly" activities, such as boys and shopping, and they also care about the same high-school issues most teenage girls care about. Despite this, all three girls are super-talented spies who can hold their own in a fight, and as far as I can remember, the fact that they were girls was never seen by anyone as a deterrent in their ability to save the world.

In this Valentine's Day episode, Clover in particular gets a chance to shine, deciding to go on a dating hiatus right around the time of the Sweetheart Dance. Meanwhile, strange matchmaking machines seem to pair up all the other girls at school (including Sam and Alex) with their dream guy. Since only Clover suspects that it all seems too good to be true (as even Jerry doesn't see anything wrong), she goes solo to uncover the matchmaker creator's plot, and just what exactly he plans to do with the girls of Beverly Hills High.

I thought this episode showed a good use of role reversal, as for once Clover plays the straight girl to the lovestruck Sam and Alex. This episode also shows that even though Clover doesn't have Sam's brains or Alex's athleticism, she's still a talented spy in her own right, and she manages to foil a bad guy's plan with nothing but her own skills, her intuition, and some backup gadgets. If there was ever an episode which proved that Clover wasn't just another "dumb teenage blonde" stereotype, it was definitely this one.

Wait, they have differing personalities? I can't even tell them apart.

So Clover was the flirty know-it-all, Sam is a NEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRD, and Alex is a jock lady?
