“Helushka”

Tyrannosaurus rex. Another airbrush painting. I did this baby primarily with my new Badger Renegade Velocity airbrush. Just realized the kind of potential it possesses after I painted this.

Here we have an adult, battle hardened t-rex facing off an unseen challenger. I named him Helushka, which is a Winnebago name meaning "fighter." Got the name from a comment my girlfriend made about him having a Native American vibe.

I was compelled to do this baby after watching the clip of a t-rex fight from the upcoming “Dinosaur Revolution” from Discovery [link] . Loved the animation they’ve done for the show, much better than the previous dinomentaries Discovery had produced (which were a far cry from what the BBC/Impossible Pictures had done with their dinosaur shows). I think they’ve made a good investment this time. But my only problem with what I’ve seen is that the animals were too anthropomorphic. I don’t mind the slapstick sense of humor the creators have done but when the animals start exhibiting human-like characteristics, that’s where I tend to draw the line.

But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to watch it.
The sky was originally a light blue, quite similar to what Russian paleoartist, does. But at the end of it, I realized that it just wasn’t “me.” So I repainted it into what you see now.

Done using airbrush acrylics and water-soluble color pencils.
