I Dream of a World by AmericanDreaming I Dream of a World by AmericanDreaming
Looking around at the current political landscape, one is tempted to say, "dream on, Neil." But it is a dream I too share.  Truth must precede opinion, not the other way around.  We find ourselves at the confluence of ignorance, apathy, faux-jadedness, political polarization, confirmation bias, tribalism, and blind, conspiratorial, skepticism which borders on relativism.

"Separation of politics and everything else."

That is a very important quote on politics that people should keep in mind.

I dream it too Neil. Too bad people are more likely to believe lies. After all people prefer to believe beautiful lies rather than ugly truths. I don't think that will change.

Ah, one of my favourite contemporary figures, a fitting spokesperson for the legacy of the great Carl Sagan!  Such figures approach "culture hero" status.

Perhaps Tyson should've said "scientific truth" to avoid making inbred batshit morons like this think he's referring to their collection of fairy tales.

Trust me there is things on both sides that have been disproven or the need to adjust their information to and  even admitting that the other side might have some valid points is too hard to do anymore.

One aspect of the problem is that issues of fact vs fiction, science vs pseudoscience, have become politicized. Taking X stance on Z issue is associated with Y faction, and the state of the facts are simply overridden, and them post-hock spun after the fact.

I know. I have seen this on a lot of things and even asking for more through research on some issues gets my head bitten off. Like with can you prove gender fluid is a biological or psycholical thing I don't know what to make of something that just showed up and I want to know where it comes from. Is that wrong? I withhold my reaction to nothing more than please don't be a jerk about it until more research is done and with the Vaccines and Autism thing being one that the source was not well done and had nothing to back it. I am skeptical about things like that.

It isn't morally wrong to dispute something of course, but it is a mark against someone if they continue denying it once sufficient evidence has been produced. It so happens that the vaccine issue isn't quite as politicized as some others, as there are many on both sides who for some reason or another don't trust the facts (that vaccines work, and autism is something one is born with, not acquired), facts which I don't think can be credibly disputed without new, extraordinary evidence surfacing to overturn our existing understanding in that area. People should disagree civilly, but going back to the picture, it is lamentable that facts cannot be agreed on.
