Big Government by AmericanDreaming Big Government by AmericanDreaming
When a conservative says they hate big government, they are referring to welfare, food stamps, and other social programs designed to help the poor. They also hate regulations, as they restrict those at the top on just how much they can rape those at the bottom.

My parents are conservatives.. this is literally nothing of what we stand for.
only a few things are in here are actually sort of what we believe
1. Drugs that cause major brain damage and cause a lot of people to BECOME poor? Yeah those should be illegal
2. What a women can do with her body. I think any human being banging everyone they see is probably not the way to find love, and happiness. It also causes the spread of STDs. Should it be illegal? No. The government shouldn’t control that. Is it gross? Yes.
3. Expanding law enformance/military. People shouldn’t rob, kill or attack other people. Do you want more people to get raped? Do you want to get graffiti on your home? Do you want to get valuable possessions stolen from you? Any way, that is up to the state, NOT the federal government. Concerning the military, we want a strong military, just so if something bad happens, we can defend are selves.

I think the the most I disagree with is that you said “they want the government on every street corner, listening to every phone call, reading every email, collecting data on every person.”
WOW.
You really think we want basic human rights taken from us.
Man, you should really do some research.

I'm not sure why you mentioned that your parents are conservatives if you indicated by saying "we" throughout that you are a conservative as well. No matter.

Your bullet points are irrelevant to this picture. You're trying to make your case for why you believe what you believe, but the clear purpose of this piece is to highlight the hypocrisy that most conservatives claim to favor a "small government," but in the end turn out only to be selectively against government when it checks business interests or helps the poor. I am happy that you do not think abortion should be illegal. Most of your fellow conservatives disagree with that, and virtually every poll done on the subject will corroborate that. As to domestic surveillance, conservatives support that much more than liberals, and more importantly, the politicians conservatives vote for support it vociferously. Surveillance is not as hot button a topic as it was four years ago when I made this, so it's not discussed as much by either side.

We share the same thought. I don't think it's honest to claim that you want to get out of people's lives, and have a small regional government if you want to ban anything which doesn't mesh with your worldview.

At least I'm actually for liberty in that I just want people to be able to do what they want within reason and without harming people.

Ahh, In that case the big government must come to the rescue huh.
I'll Agree to your point only if it works both ways, but unfortunately, double standard strikes again.

Can you force an Islamic restaurant in America to serve pork and alcohol?

:iconamericandreaming:
AmericanDreaming Featured By Owner Jan 18, 2016   Writer
That's a poor analogy. Not serving alcohol is not discrimination against drinkers. If a Halal restaurant started telling non-Muslims they wouldn't serve them, that's analogous, and that should not be allowed. How can you honestly argue for something so absurd?

Wonderful, just when I remembered about the Muslim flight attendant who refused to serve alcohol to non-Muslims, and the Muslim staff in retail stores who refused to sell alcohol and pork to non-Muslims, but lets not bother the big government in such silly matters.

Pardon my *absurd analogy

Again, that's not an example of discrimination, and your framing of it is dishonest. They weren't refusing to sell/serve only to non-Muslims but handing drinks out to fellow Muslims (who in their view are prohibited from drinking), they were refusing to serve anyone altogether. This really isn't a difficult concept. Those were employees of companies refusing to do their jobs (and to my knowledge they were fired, and if not should be), not businesses refusing to serve certain people based on orientation/religion/race etc.

The interesting thing is that the current conservative political movement (i.e. Republican party) was a multi-faction base, all of whom had wildly different wishes, but they were kept in line by strong leadership and the one thing that binds all conservatives: some form of traditionalism.

The Neo Conservatives were a national supremacist movement, believing that the US was "shining city on the mound" that everyone else looked up to (and was jealous of), and it was the US' job to transform the rest of the world in its image, giving everyone democracy, whether they wanted it or not. So these were the guys who pushed not only for an overly expansive military, but for a massive expansion of the application of military power as well. And since massive modern warfare needs massive modern intelligence, they also massively expanded the surveillance system. At first by a program called Total Information Awareness (which the courts deemed unconstitutional and congress rebuffed), and then via the FISA extension and Patriot Act (which mostly reconstituted TIA and gave it legal footing).

The social conservatives are the religious base, and all they care about is that government mandates biblical teachings, even if those teachings violate the national constitution. Many of them believe the constitution, which they probably haven't actually read, was divinely inspired, so of course god wants our laws to be biblical. Starting in 2001, they were responsible for a 300% increase in the number of local and national bills attempting to limit abortion and contraceptive access, including the notorious vaginal probe provision.

The last group is actually composed of two branches that sort of merged into one over time. They include the pro-business lobby, whose prime directive is to siphon money from government directly into their business and completely deregulate their specific industry. And then the Randian/Birch Society, who started out as an anti-communist movement, but have now transformed into a group that cares for little more than the elimination of all taxes based on a complete misreading of Laffer's economic theories, and who promote the anarchist capital market (based on a complete misunderstanding of Adam Smith's theories), which is completely free of any government intervention and is left entirely to market forces (i.e. fear and greed).

They each don't really care much for the other's main interests, and with a much weakened leadership after the Bush administration, the groups are falling apart at the seems. However, it is true that they all share the mantra that government is evil (or at least that government is the problem), while simultaneously wanting to expand some part of government or some government power.

I purposefully chose to say conservative, because Republicans are who conservatives elect. If there are any conservatives out there who don't agree with Republicans on these issues, let this motivate them to elect better leaders.

I think that's what the Tea Party was trying to do (at least most of it), but "better" can often be a subjective term in politics.

If that's your interpretation of my words, then the imperfection is yours.

And if you truly believe that the free exchange of ideas is a waste of time, then I invite you to leave the West.

And demanding the removal of erroneous, hyperbolic nonsense which serves no other purpose but to divide rather than bridge understanding and satisfy the unwarranted ego of the poster is one thing. Forcefully removing it against the aforementioned hyperbolic egotist is censorship.

Bitch.

No, it's not interpretation, it's what you said. You didn't like what he had to say, and so you said that if he didn't want to answer to you, as though you're some kind of authority on the matter, then he should take it down.

And I never said the exchange of ideas is a waste of time, but trying to reason with blabbering emotional idiots is a complete waste of time. That said, sorry if I gave the impression that I had any interest in debating you. I saw you getting all emotional, and out of pity, decided to explain why everyone is ignoring you.

Now if you don't mind, I'm going to go back to ignoring you. You can return to watching fox now.

I'm not just doing it to relieve stress. I'm doing it because I'm in a room filling up with fucking smoke, while there's a big swanky party going on. I'm screaming and hollering and NOBODY IS GODDAMNED LISTENING.

They want the party to keep on rolling.

That's about how I feel.

Nobody wants to believe that things are crumbling all around them without their paying attention.
