Watch Parts and DVD Wing Butterfly No 6
Completed March 22, 2019
This is a one of a kind, handmade clockwork butterfly made from the recycled parts of old watches, as well as wings from cut and etched dvd's.
Her wings are made from disused DVD'sthat have been hand cut with a jeweler's saw, then etched with vein designs into the wings.
Her legs were created with many different watch winding stems that have been cut into various sizes and soldered at the leg joints using silver bearing solder.
Her body is a couple of watch plates and balance wheels soldered to a strap string at the thorax, around which has been bent a cut watch dial.
Her head is a cut, sanded and shaped watch dial to which is soldered two identical winding stem knobs for eyes, and a cut and spiraled watch dial for her proboscis.
She alights on a brass rod that has been curved and soldered and that acts as a stand.
This is a one of a kind work of art, never to be exactly reproduced.
Her dimension are 75mm wide wingtip to wingtip, 65mm front to back at base, and 105mm tall. She is very fragile and should be handled sparingly and very gently, and is most definitely not a toy.
