Watch Parts Ghost Mantis II Praying Mantis No 51.b
buy:  www.amechanicalmind.com/produc…

Description
Mantis No 51
Completed 10.26.2018

This is a very unique, hand crafted, and realistic mechanical Ghost Mantis made from the recycled parts of old watches.

Her body is made out of watch strap springs and sanded, shaped watch dials, while her abdomen was made by inverting, curving, and cutting another dial with a jeweler's saw to create "segments."

Her wings are made from antique watch dials that have been cut, sanded, and curved into wing shapes.

Her head is made from a watch dial, bent into shape and onto it are soldered winding stem knobs that act as her eyes.

Her legs were created with many different watch winding stems that have been cut into various sizes and soldered at the leg joints using lead free silver bearing solder.  To these leg assemblies are attached many cut and shaped watch dials for embellishment.

There is no glue or resin to be found in the piece...everything is soldered into place with metal. This is a one of a kind work of art, never to be exactly reproduced.

Mantis No 51 measures 37mm wide by 45mm tall by 53mm long. She comes with a 3" by 4" glass dome with walnut base for display. She is extremely fragile and should be handled sparingly and very gently, and is most definitely not a toy.

Chicago, IL I am Justin Gershenson-Gates, the thinker and assembler behind A Mechanical Mind. The grandson of a railroad man, the son of a gearhead, my life has been filled with all things mechanical. As a child, I would take my toys apart in order to see how they worked, but was never able to put them back together again. Now, I take dead old watches from the top drawers of the world, and rearrange their bits and widgets into whimsical designs.

My aim is to show the beauty of the mechanical world, a place generally hidden from the public behind metal and glass. My pieces display the more delicate and ephemeral side of gears, rather than the cold, hard factory feel they normally portray. Please contact me at jmg@amechanicalmind.com or jmg.amechanicalmind@gmail.com with any questions you may have.

Your art is pure genius. Your sculptures are interesting and whimiscal, and it's even cooler that you recycle watches.

yo, your gallery is a piece of art in on itself. Im a tattoo artist, and ive been struggling with drawing mechanical structures for a while. Your projects inspire me a lot and im honestly thinking of bringing some of your works onto paper in sketch style

Sorry this is so long in replying, as I've been out of town and put down the social for a week.  Thanks so much for the kind words.  I'd love to see what you come up with should you do something based upon my work.  Your gallery is amazing, as well...I'm always blown away by those that can work in 2-D so very well!
