Nice leatherwork, Mann. I've never seen a double chin strap rig like that. Is that an authentic design or something you came up with?

Actually it is not double chin strap - the front strap is for the chin, and the back strap is for the back of the hat. This way shako sits very tightly on the head and wouldn't slip no matter what do you do. You can see how the similar shako looks on person here [link]

And yes, it is something that I came up with, however I'm almost sure now that this system was used in some shako hats during late 19th century.
