So, recently I've been working on a new project. It's really...well, KAWAII!!  ^-^/

If you don't already know, I have a little shop on Etsy where I sell handmade stationery items. Anything from pencils made from recycled paper to felt covered mini journals, as well as items with my own artwork printed on them. While I really enjoy making these things, I realized some time ago that something was missing. Kitties!!

The new shop will be called The Kawaii Kitty, and will feature all things cute kitty goodness. For the last few months I've been creating new ideas for the shop, and finally have proof!! Lookie (da proofs):

I even created a cute logo for the new brand!
(Website coming soon, too! OMG MOAR POEMS! )

These pencils are featured in my main shop for now, but will soon have a new home. I have other items I'm working on too, like more pencil stamp designs, kitty journals, and even kitty-inspired kitchenware and jewelry! Yep. Not just stationery anymore. Meow :3

As for my art, it's still in limbo as I deal with some personal issues and get back on my feet, but I hope to be back soon. ^^

*sips coffee* Well, back to work!

Can't believe it's been so long since I was last active in my art and writing! This year has been pretty crazy. Work was unpredictable, living arrangements were very difficult to deal with, friends moved even further away who I already hadn't been able to see for a long time, and my mother was in and out of the hospital so many times I practically know the whole layout of said hospital by heart! Unfortunately, due to all the demanding schedules, heavy stress and emotional issues, my art and writing were put on the back burner as I attempted to deal with...well, life.

However, I've had some pretty nice highlights to look back on this year, too! I was commissioned to work on a board game design, as well as a few other small projects. Though they are yet to be finished, I started on a few personal art pieces. I also developed new ideas and items for my shop and other businesses, including a new idea I'll be launching in 2016. And perhaps the biggest news for the year... I FINALLY moved! That in itself was a huge breath of fresh air, as those close to me well know.

In short, it was another roller-coaster year for sure. But I feel much better about where I am now in regards to my future. I am truly thankful for all the people I have in my life right now. Each in their own way have helped me so much more than they know, and more than I could ever possibly thank them for in a lifetime. Hug

Ready for 2016!!

Hey there! So lately I've been considering options for expanding my skills and really putting myself out there in the big wide world just a little bit more. I'm extremely shy by nature, but the interwebz seems to have a strange way of bringing even the most agoraphobic, hikikomori hermit (yep, all three terms together!) out into the digital light of day. But...what exactly do you do?

Well, I like gaming, anime, creating art (aka pushing pixels around), and building stuff (aka pushing...uh...stuff around...??). I like watching YouTube. So, what if I combine those two and game, review anime, create art, and build stuff of my own...ON YouTube? I know, I know. EVERYONE ELSE is already doing that, why become yet another in the sea of gamers, anime reviewers, and other creatives ALREADY in existence, playing the same games, reviewing the same anime, and basically providing the same type of content. Why? Because it's FUN!! Because I might enjoy it. Because someone, somewhere looking on in that sea of YouTubers might actually chuckle a bit at my own humble, and most likely awkward attempt to share what I enjoy doing. And if I can brighten someone's day, even a little, that's good enough to bring this agoraphobic, hikikomori hermit out of her shell.  Giggle

I've had this idea floating around for a while now, and actually went so far as to create a channel, create and upload artwork for it, and put together a rather embarrassingly primitive intro video. But it's just been siting there for months, collecting digital dust. I hope to change that soon! The problem I'm having is the aging equipment I have available to make videos with, and the lack of funds to upgrade that equipment. With my mother being so sick, and my car out of commission (and a host of other issues I won't go into), it's been difficult trying to find a job to build up those funds. But, I can make do for now. The important thing is getting out there, yeah?  OMG MOAR POEMS!

Some other ideas I've had for generating funds would be to find tutoring jobs, doing commission work (which I already do - I'm for hire!!), and upgrading my skills as a graphic designer and digital artist. I have a formal education in graphic design, but that old degree training can only take me so far. The industry changes constantly. Technology advances faster than I can keep up with! The key to becoming even moderately successful is to always be learning. Always improving, no matter what happens. To quote a movie, "keep moving forward." And that's what I'm going to do. (Kudos to you, my friend, if you know the movie!)  Clap

So yeah, these are my thoughts. What are yours? Any ideas for games, anime, or other content I should consider for my channel? Technical advice I need to know? Funds-generating outlets I could check into? I'm always up for suggestions!!

Time for lovey-doveyness again! I'm celebrating by giving back to my wonderful Etsy shop patrons, without whom my shop would not exist.  If you have purchased from my shop in the past, or are considering it now, let me give you a warm "thank you" hug for bringing a smile on my face, and allowing me to share my creations with you!!  Hug

I'll also be making a delicious chocolate brownie cake with strawberries and ice cream for my family.  Mmmm~~~chocolate!!! :happybounce:

Wow, I hadn't realized just how long it had been since I last updated my portfolio website.  I've kept up fairly well with my blog, but not so much for my website.  Turns out, it hasn't been updated since last March!!  YIKES!!  OMG

When creating a website, you want to keep in mind who your target audience is, what the website is about, as well as what design trends are on the rise.  Of course, there are loads of other factors, and these may or may not apply to the product/service/topic your site is about.  Then you have to consider technical details such as how your site will appear on mobile, and if it will work with slow internet providers, and such items as whether to include Flash, how many images your site can effectively handle and at what sizes to as not to weight down the loading times.  And.............  *phew!*  In short, there's a lot to consider when creating a website.  It's not always as simple as many DIY site editors will have you believe.

SOOOO..... with that off my chest, I bring you...... my newly redesigned portfolio website for 2015!!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so excited about this! Ever since I first found out about this awesome site (through some really awesome artists here on DA) I've been trying to come up with the perfect description, the most awesome rewards I can offer, and funding goals that are realistic and helpful.  After about a week of planning, I'm happy to say my page is finally launched!!

Here's the link:

It would be totally awesome of you to join me in this quest to become a better artist, and you'll be rewarded quite nicely for your kindness....

Hey guys!
So, thanks to some awesome artists that I follow here on DA, I recently found out about a really amazing site called Patreon.  If you don't know about it yet, you should check it out!!  It kind of functions like Kickstarter, except instead of funding one large project all at once, you can help support your favorite artists on a more regular basis.  This helps the artists get the regular funding they need on an ongoing basis so that they can keep creating the great content that you love so well.  And in return, YOU get some really cool perks in the process!!

I am in the process of creating my own Patreon page, and will definitely have the link posted here on DA as soon as it's up.  So be on the lookout for that soon!!

Keep being awesome!! Neko Emoji-41 - (Kawaii Waving) [V3]

Hey guys!  So, admittedly I'm not all that familiar with the entire Deviant Art interface.  In fact, I haven't been a member all that long either, so I'd welcome some pointers from my new friends here!  Love

For now, just to get the ball rolling, I'm going to just post a snippet from a recent post on my own blog.  Have fun!

So, I wanted to share with you an uplifting message I came across today.  If you are struggling with feelings of self-doubt, a seeming inability to rise above the deep, dark waters of harsh criticism or even rejection, you are not alone.  Many of us allow ourselves to be pulled into these depths without realizing we have a unique purpose that may not be in line with “normal” ways of thinking.  For some of us, the effects can be seriously damaging, causing us to bury our imaginative spirit, never to find our own voice.  It is NEVER ok to put someone down for being who they are.

Now, as a fellow creative / geeky-nerd I’ve had my fair share of raised eyebrows, criticisms, and downright rejections.  I’ve learned to take advice from the criticisms from those who actually care and use it to become a better person, and to ignore all the trolls and haters.  But it wasn’t always that way.  And I still struggle with feelings of self-doubt and ineptitude.  I think for all us creative people it kinda goes with the territory.  And that's OK!  Even though it’s tough to go through, if you can take the positive from it you can build yourself back up and create something truly extraordinary.  So what’s the uplifting message I mentioned, you ask?
Here's the link over to my blog if you want to read more... my blog...don't worry, it's safe!
