This is the April Suit for the Hanafuda (Japanese playing cards) expansion mini card deck created for the new and awesome tabletop game called Tokyo Yakuza. I'm so excited to be a part of the game's creation!! You can check out the game on the developer's website tokyoyakuza.com
If you don't know about hanafuda cards, they are traditional Japanese playing cards. You can read all about their history here hanafuda.com/history
. For these designs, I have attempted to combine the traditional symbolism of the original card designs with the style of the Tokyo Yakuza game. As I complete each "suit" I will definitely be posting them here!
The game, and the short story anthologies that go along with the game, was actually funded via Kickstarter. As you can imagine, it was a huge success, having surpassed its original funding goal just weeks after it started. The game illustrations and short stories are a collaborative effort, many artists and writers having all come together to create this project. Now that the Kickstarter campaign is over and fully funded (and then some!), it's in the design and printing stages, and the developer chose ME to create the card designs AND the box cover design...and now the expansion deck!
I'm for hire!! If you have a project you'd like to have designed, drop me a note and let's work together!
