So, you know the basics about DA, now you would like to learn more!

First let's refresh our memory with the Basics by looking over a few Tutorials and Resources:

If you have more questions about this process I would like to direct you to the group DAWelcomeWagon, your home for everything deviantArt related!

Let's learn about some of the vernacular that you may hear:

Hooray Llama Badges What is a badge? Hooray Llama Badges

There are many badges on DA.  Some are only available for a limited time, while others are reserved for certain deviants who take part in the community.  There are others that are always available, an example being the Llama Badge.

If you want to find out more, go to this group Badges-of-DeviantART they have all active badges listed and how you can get them.

You are only allowed to feature 5 of your badges at any given time on your profile page. To edit which badges are visable or to change the order in which they appear, hover your mouse over the badges on your profile page "View and Choose badges" will appear beside them click on that and it will take you into your badges, you can change out your featured badges there, you can also view who has given you badges and who you have given them to.

Day38 - What? LLAMA is Evolving! What is the deal with all of the llamas?Day38 - What? LLAMA is Evolving!

Llamas are one of the DA Badges that you can earn, when you are given llamas the badge will upgrade as you gain more llamas. Now, I bet you would like to know why. Why do we get them and why do we give them? Well that is simple: to show support and receive support from others.  It is fun to gain more of them and level up to the next llama.

Llama levels and more llama information:
You can choose which achieved Llama Level is featured in your profile page. Go to your Llama badge page and click the Llama Level that you want to use. me.deviantart.com/badges/llama

Catch them points What are points, and how do I get them?Catch them points

Points Points :points: are the equivalent of DA Money. However, you can exchange money for points, but you can not exchange points for money, unless earned through a Commission.

You can give points to show support to another deviant or to even purchace a DA membership or DA content and merchandise. You can also participate in contests that are held by deviants all over DA, to earn points, CRCommunityProjects has a monthly contest feature that you can check out to find them.

NaNo12.1 - Movember What is sta.sh? NaNo12.1 - Movember

Sta.sh is DeviantArt's upload and publishing platform -- home to all of your images, writings, Flash/animations, and everything in between. Once you've uploaded something via Sta.sh, you'll be provided a special URL. This URL is known only to you and can be shared with others before officially publishing the work to your public DeviantArt gallery.

Emoticon drawing Tell me about DA Muro: Emoticon drawing

You can use DA Muro directly in your comments by selecting "Add A Drawing" in the bottom left of your comment box. You can also easily access it through your own sta.sh and it will save the work you create to your sta.sh.
You can also find "Muro Challenges" in the DA Forums.

Thumbs Up  What is a Thumb code? Thumbs Up

Whenever you do a feature or maybe want to link to a certain deviation the thumbs code is a very handy feature. It allows your viewers to see a smaller version of what you are referring to directly. Thumb is just short for "Thumbnail". Thumb codes will only work in the comments section for core members.

:blahblah: revamp dAmn is not a swear word! :blahblah: revamp

dAmn stands for DeviantArt Messaging Network - which is comprised of both the Chat Network and the Forums.

Chat Network
The chat network is what it is everywhere on the internet, it is a network of chat rooms that different members and groups will host chat events in or you can just go to a chat room and see if there is anyone there who wants to chat.
The Chat Network is comprised of large number of chatrooms, some of which are official chatrooms operated by DeviantArt staff and volunteers, whilst others are created and operated by users of our community. #devart and #help are the main chattrooms that are officially moderated by the volunteer Team. Also don't forget about #welcome to learn more about DA as well!

Forums
Want advice on your art? Maybe you need help navigating DA? Perhaps you just want to meet new people and find out their opinion on some topic. Well go and check out the forums.

You'll find all sorts of topics and conversations going on in there. You can start up a new one or search through hundreds of other forum chat events.

:squee-love: - PLZ What are Critiques, and why should I bother?:squee-love: - PLZ

First thing you should know, while anyone can make a Critique on someones work, only Core members have the option to request them on their artwork when submitting them under "Publishing Options"
Here I have a deviation that I have enabled the Critique Option So You know what you are looking for:
turquoise heart bullet   Rainbow

Why should you critique? Well why should anyone give anyone else advice on their work? So that the person requesting the Critique can learn through your experience. There are also groups that you can join if you wish for your work to be critiqued but do not have a Core Membership, like ProjectComment

The biggest thing we should work on when giving critiques, or even commenting on someones deviation is to master the Constructive Comment! Here to show us how is RipfangDragon:

Lily - Bullet [Left] - F2U! What is a Commission and How do I go about getting them?Lily - Bullet [Left] - F2U!

Commissions are small digital works or services offered by an artist, giving you the ability to obtain quality custom content. The Commissions Widget on your DeviantArt profile, allows you to sell these commissions on DeviantArt.

Trophy What is a DD? Trophy

The Daily Deviation (DD) is a daily feature chosen from the galleries here on DeviantArt.

An assortment of submissions are chosen each day by this select group of staff and volunteer members who wish to showcase artwork they have found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.

Here are a couple of lists of Abbreviation/ Acronyms that you will see on DA

Comments, Favs, and Watches Oh My!

It is said, to pay it forward in life, so that others can have the chances that we have been blessed with ourselves.

DA has a sence of community that facebook and other social media outlets just don't have.  Here on dA you share your heart, soul, and the entirety of yourself, every single day you post your deviations. That is what art is, it's not a pretty picture or a little sonnet but it is you, all of your being, that you are revealing to strangers, who inturn decide that they love who you are so much by what your soul reveals, of itself, that they want to follow you. Everytime you hit the, add to favorites, or even gift a silly little llama, you are paying it forward. Not to mention when you decide that the work you have seen from a complete stranger is so utterly amazing that you just have to see more of it, so you select the most amazing button, +watch. That tells a person, they are so great, and so worth while, that you, someone who doesn't even know them, is willing, nay, desires to see more, of who you are. Now that is paying it forward.

Learning the vernacular on DA can be a little tricky at first. Figuring out what different items like llamas and points have to do with a site about art, is a bit confusing, but I think this article should help with that. Just know that projecteducate is here to try and make your DA experience as comfortable as possible, and DAWelcomeWagon would like to make DA feel like home, for you, the Deviants of DA.

I've been on Da for like 4 years, and even some of this stuff I didn't know myself. Man...

I didn't have someone to ask when I first started though: I had to figure out most of this stuff out for myself. I actually met someone not too long ago that didn't know what points were. That confused me for a moment.

:huggle: Yours was one of the best how-to critiques, that I came across! Very informative and geared toward positive critiques. Some people don't know how to criticize. I like to do the negative supported with a positive, and never put down a work or the artist.
