When virtue kills

When virtue kills

It was a cold December day, when she first met him, a decent young man with a mild sense of humour, and an even larger pride. A breath of fresh air, a stark contrast to most of the men she knew, he had wits and charms, along with a very endearing flirtatious side, which she learned to endure, for despite being a friend, his talent always got the better of him. A truly revolting notion, being hit on by incessantly by a comrade, but that’s what he was, a mantra she never ceased to repeat in her head, in the hopes that it might help her get used to his never-ending advances, although he meant no harm by them, as he increasingly assured her, it was his way of jesting with his lady friends. Mesmerised by his witty ways and charming words, she slowly began to trust him enough to be one of her best friends, and before long, she found herself attached to him. Then one day, he came to her pale faced, and announced that he had cancer and needed surgery, her life came crumbling down before

To the memory of a sweet rose

To the memory of a sweet rose

My dearly beloved rose, although our time was short, it was filled with memories I treasured, treasure, and will treasure for all eternity. My only regret: having never expressed how important of a friend you were, it ate me up for far longer than I care to admit, having been one of the few ladies I trusted entirely. I find solace in remembering your bright smile, these fleetings moments soothe my aching heart and assure me how much you appreciated our time together. You were my bulwark, a shoulder to cry on, a joyful face to share my laughs with, know that you're dearly missed my sweet friend, and hopefully we would be reunited again, where you won't be suffering as much as you suffered in your brief stay.

Tale of an outcast

Tale of an outcast

Society, the great pearl of existence, the great gathering of bodies and minds, a safe haven for everyone under it; family, friends, neighbours, co-workers, where memories are made, relations that transcend even blood, and strong bonds are forged. We are taught love, acceptance, tolerance, and every bright emotion one might think of. Unfortunately, circumstances differ, if only it was always sunshine and rainbows, wickedness and foulness inhibit the very core of every organism, try as we might to change it, it is a part of who we are. Every once in a while, a different being is born, a being which every misery would be associated with, who has to bear the most villainous people. Different… therefore loathed. These pitiable souls were born introverted, socially awkward, autistic or simply on the spectrum of, and so on. Their family might shun them immediately, if not they’re sure to meet hell on earth, school is a heaven for bullies, oh the tears they must shed, because someone

Entranced!

Entranced!

Evolving like the seasons, from chilling coolness to radiance and warmth, a nimble-witted crowd with some of the most actively creative brains on the planet there was, capturing the unwavering attention of their admirers and even the most conservative individuals who pay them no heed. Busy bees racking their minds to conjure up new ideas, new creations, ever so diligent to sate the unending and raging desire of the unique community they target. Swamps of the followers make the holy pilgrimage to cities where the events take place, coming from high and low, media worshippers -and quite frankly, worshipped by them as well-, appreciating any and everything they’re shown, barely containing their joy and delight. The fashion world, the mercurial realm of garments and odd customs, gathering patrons by the millions, eagerly awaiting upon every fleeting change, as the designers never disappoint. Follow them one may relish upon, the pride swelling in their chests at every praise, every

Irresponsibility, root of all evil

Irresponsibility, root of all evil

Life is the result of our hard labour, every aspect of it, be it nature, culture, industry, you name them. Hard-workers shall be rewarded and reap the fruit of their efforts, their work recognized throughout time, either in the near future or countless generations to come. However, the illusion of excellence fades once we realise the ever-present duality of duty and obligation vs triviality and depravity, the dichotomy of good and evil one might add, although extreme, this sums it up entirely. For what person in their right mind endangers society by putting their leisurely ‘needs’ before accomplishing a task to perfection?! Now comes the dark side of the moon, the least morally driven individuals, lazy and arrogant, infuriatingly so, jeopardizing the life of their fellow human beings. Many recall the ‘accidents’ that happened because of such negligence, patients dying because of an error in IV dosages, buildings crumbling down due to poor maintenance, privacy thrown out of the

Weekly drabble #4: Gossip

Weekly drabble #4: Gossip

Ah, the ladies’ forbidden fruit, ever so inviting with its sweet fragrance, engage in it and you shall be unable to detach yourself from its divine bliss. Hours upon hours of heavenly feelings, a mixture of both agony and a hidden ecstasy, a sensation, strangely enough, is well sought after, despite the bitter after-taste. Back on our Earthly plane, although it is mainly a female specialty, gentlemen sometimes cannot avoid its forcible and firm grip, how many hours do they find themselves lost in what seems at first ‘important’ banters, and the topics leave much to be desired. From looks and clothing, to feelings and significant others, nothing shall escape their undivided attention, attempt to break the gathering, and feel their wrath unleashed upon you like a thousand bricks. Wicked smiles do not go unrecognized upon their faces, while they wreak havoc upon everything they touch, a walking, talking mass of utter mayhem. Avoid them like the monstrosities they are, fearsome beasts

Gratitude... life's precious gem

Gratitude... life's precious gem

Since time immemorial, society has been a concoction of different statures, each unaware of the existence of the other, the higher up the food chain, the less they are aware of those below. With this particular situation no longer the case, we have become one unit, undivided and more solid than ever, or so it would seem on the surface. For some who live in the northern hemisphere do not appear to grasp the situation happening around them, life is happy why should we bother? Moving on to this year, more and more are making a fuss about the simpler things, boredom, imprisoned at home, cannot visit family and friends… There are people in the hospitals wishing merely for health, those in the streets facing the danger of contamination who can’t avoid it, and even worse, there are poor souls who cannot even afford one mask to save their lives, and so on and so forth of unfortunate individuals suffering in silence. Being grateful and learning to be patient is a true virtue!

Humanity restored

Humanity restored

In today’s world, people get lost in the daily routine: work, meetings, and shopping, it would seem the endless cycle of slaving oneself to death is the common norm, we are becoming less of living beings, bordering on the more mechanized organisms. With the online activities on the rise, human contact becomes somewhat of a myth, a precious luxury that cannot be afforded no matter what, as one can barely go through their days. Modern technology can then be considered a blessing, as well as the greatest bane in history. But then came the Corona virus… This mighty but tiny micro organism brought the entire Earth to its knees, some cannot believe the gravity of the situation we’re in in these perilous times. In the pitch-black horizon, shone a single ray of hope, cold-hearted blokes are actually singing a different tune! Blinded by greed and profit, they see nothing but numbers and bills, with the new plague they actually call for solidarity. The public is more obliging and helpful
