Anime recommendations for Kacie (and, whoever else wants them!)

Some of these will count among my personal favorite anime series, some of them are ones that are considered 'classics' or 'must see' but that I may not necessarily have seen myself (or that I have seen and couldn't personally get into).

NOTE: The best shows are in part 2 :)

(Series marked * are personal favorites)

(More action-focused series)

One Punch Man*

- I wasnt sure if I'd enjoy this, but its AWESOME and hilariously funny

Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040*

- An oldie but my #2 favorite anime. A remake of an older anime (Bubblegum Crisis)

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun*

- part of the Index world, quite a large shared universe. Railgun is my fave of the 3 series

Attack on Titan

- only watched 1 season, has a great rep though. A little gory on occasion

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood

- considered by many to be the best anime ever. Might have the best marriage proposal ever

(More drama-focused)

Elfen Lied*

- Another of my top-10 faves. Wasnt sure if it should go Drama or Horror, but figured drama

- havnt seen, has great reputation. Can be hard to follow, deals with time travel.

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works

- the Fate series is huge, its easy to get lost in it.

Made in Abyss*

- beautifully animated, and has a very RPG feel to it

Mahou Shouko Madoka Magica*

- don't let its early appearance fool you. Be sure to watch until at least episode 6.

O Maidens in your savage season

- Yay, high school girls dealing with puberty and growing up

Rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai

- This will go down as a classic in the future

Death Note

- also considered a top pick by many people. A mix of light horror/supernatural, and mystery solving

School Life

- Wasnt sure where best to put this. Kinda moe, kinda horror, kinda drama. Weird mix.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes

- I havn't seen it YET, but its often considered on of the all-time best anime in anime's history. A mega-sized Space Opera in the vein of Star Wars, Star Trek and Macross. 110 episodes. Recently got a shorter remake, but the original is the one to watch.

(More Comedy focused)

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu*

- A little slow to get into, but really good. Also very drama-y, wasnt sure where to put it

- not sure if this should be comedy or drama. The main cast, newly graduated high school girls, seeking to get into the anime creating industry in various positions!

(More romance focused, non-yuri)

Recovery of an MMO Junkie*

- This one kinda makes me feel like im looking into a mirror sometimes..

Fruits Basket

- watch the remake that just came out, havnt seen but it has great rep

note: I dont really watch het-focused romance, so limited recommendations

(Sports/games focused)

- focused on a classic japanese matching-based card game. Heavy on the drama.

Harukana Recieve*

- cute girls playing beach volleyball, light-yuri elements. Also counts as moe

Girls und Panzer

- Weirdly, this does count as sports related. Cute girls driving tanks. Also counts as moe.

Hajime no Ippo

- considered the best boxing anime series, havnt seen it. I suppose if you like boxing?

- a gambling based anime, the characters are batshit crazy and there is some psych-horror elements

(Horror focused, slasher or psychological)

Higurashi no naku koro ni*

- One of my top fave, and my top-fave horror. Has a mix of both types. Can be very hard to follow

Higurashi no naku koro ni Kai

- second season of the above. A bit more narrative.

Tokyo Ghoul

- Pretty good, though has weird censoring. 2nd season apparently sucks

note: I dont watch a lot of horror, or the ones I do might be better classified as Action

note: Many consider isekai a sub-genre, but its big enough now to be its own IMO. Isekai is a term meaning 'other world' or 'another world' and is used for anime where the protagonist comes from earth but somehow ends up in different world, often through reincarnation or being trapped in a game (like with jumanji)

Log Horizon*

- Probably the best MMO-based Isekai

- Probably the second best MMO-based Isekai

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!*

- more commonly called KonoSuba. Best 'reincarnation'-based Isekai

- occasionally a little slow/dry. Is an 'iverted isekai'

note: Moe is a term used for anime that can be basically desrcibed as "cute girls doing cute things"

and is almost always focused around high school or middle school characters.

New Game!* and New Game!!*

- cute girls creating PC games. some light yuri elements

Comic Girls*

- cute girls drawing manga. Some light yuri elements

Koisuru Asteroid*

- cute girls doing geology and astronomy. THIS ONE IS BEAUTIFULLY ANIMATED <3 Yuri subtext

(Harem based, including 'reverse harems')

Im not a fan of harem anime in general, but there are a few that are good.

High School DxD

- Not sure if its a romance per se, but it is a harem-type. Considered kidna trashy by many

Has one of my fave non-yuri female characters in it (Rias Gremory the succubus <3 ). Very ecchi.

Ranma 1/2

- a classic, and considered the first harem-type anime. VERY LONG. no need to watch it all. Comedy!

Domestic na Kanojo

- many consider this a bit of a trashy dumpster fire but its deeper than it looks. High on the drama.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!

- I actually havnt watched this one yet, but its very well rated. Still airing! Reverse harem (IE female protagonist), but also counts as an isekai.

(non-sport competition anime)

A weird sub-genre

Shokugeki no Souma

- its subject matter might surprise you, lol. Basically foodporn.

Yakitate!! Japan

- dont let the subject matter deter you. Also very long. Baking-porn. Yes, baking.
