White Martian-Portrait

It turns out that the sweet and kind Miss Martian is a false persona hiding a being of intense malice and sadism. An experiment conducted by the deviant Skrull Martians in an attempt to reawaken their lost psychic abilities, they succeeded in transforming her into a creature of Martian folklore, the horrifying White Martian, a psionic predator that devoured the minds of its victims.

Using her as an advanced agent for the impending Skrull invasion of Earth, they targeted the last Martian Eternal, J'onn J'onnz, in order to sabotage his effectiveness. With her predatory telepathic powers, she subtlety poisoned J'onn's mind and caused the persona of Charles Xavier to become a rogue consciousness within him. This would eventually lead to the creation of the powerful psionic entity known as Onslaught who would challenge the heroes of Earth and weaken the planet's defenses.

However, the friendship and kindness she had experienced during her masquerade had a profound effect on the former Miss Martian and she would eventually turn against the invading Skrulls and join her former comrades in the Teen Titans against the invasion. She would also prove key in defeating Onslaught by reuniting the warring halves of J'onn's psyche, though the sheer strain from doing so would ultimately prove fatal to her.

With the Skrull invasion defeated, the Teen Titans gathered to mourn their fallen teammate, erecting a statue in her honor.
