When physicist Dr. Julia Warlow achieved her dream of piercing the dimensional barrier and opening a portal into hyperspace, she didn't expect anything would be in there waiting to get out. Suddenly, the small tear in space-time was forcibly wrenched apart and a being of pure energy emerged into our dimension. Seizing the nearby Dr. Warlow, the being seemingly consumed her, leaving nothing behind of her physical form. A violent metamorphosis then occurred, and Julia Warlow was reborn as the ultimate energy vampire, Hyperflux. No longer human, she immediately sought to appease her hunger for power, absorbing the energy from the surrounding equipment, then the heat and light from the air, and finally, the bio-electrical energies of all the workers present. But this was not nearly enough.

After several cities went dark, Power Force was called in and the mighty heroes found themselves woefully outmatched by the ravenous Hyperflux, who could now freely manipulate all forms of energy and matter. During the battle, both Mr. Mercury and Darkwalker concluded that the being's capacity to absorb energy was limitless and that her power would only grow until she became the only thing that existed in this universe.

In the end, the heroes created an artificial blackhole and Magnifique managed to force Hyperflux into it, seemingly ending the threat, but it is possible that Hyperflux may find some way back into this reality now that she knows about it.
