I'm trying to avoid giving anyone legendaries/mythicals unless they're an immensely powerful person in canon. He's a prince, but there's tons of princes/princesses in the Mario world so I don't think even that is good enough! =P
Yeah!! I imagine the Professor is initially embarrassed of his phobia around the legendary khap'taan who was said to not be afraid of anything, but Ode is so respectful and understanding about it... 
I'm excited to get to him one of these days!! So many deep ocean Pokemon that can swim freely alongside the Marino... And maybe a Rotom-frost that won't stop following him. IT'S KINDA MESSED UP but if anyone in this series is ever going to get a fridge, who else...!!
