The French and the Spanish-Brazilians confront the Prussians and their German allies for control of northern France.
The Germans lay siege to Paris from September 20, 1870 but are confronted with numerous attacks on their rear. However, they manage to repel them.
The English deploy their fleet to blockade the North Atlantic. The Brazilian fleet is no match and remains in the south.
In November 1870 they land en masse in southern Morocco with 150,000 men transported from Madeira. Opposite 120,000 Brazilians but poorly armed. They retreat to the strongholds of the north: Tangier, Ceuta, Kenitra, Larache and Melilla.
The English must mobilize an additional 150,000 men to overcome the Brazilian strongholds. Tangier, the largest Brazilian place finally surrendered on June 15, 1871 after 5 months of siege.
In Europe, the Germans did not want to get involved any more and neither did the French. Thus, in January 1871, France gave Alsace Lorraine to Germany in exchange for peace. The Brazilians returned to Spain to hold the peninsula and the English concentrated their efforts on Africa. They also recognized the new German Empire.
The Brazilians also withdraw from Italy, leaving Italian unity to take place with the disappearance of the Papal States and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
The war on the European front is over. It will continue in the rest of the world.
