The arrival of Brazilian garrisons in the West Indies and Louisiana in August 1831 worried the Yankees.
On September 12, 1831, the Boyer River massacre took place: 53 illegal Yankee migrants were massacred by Sioux militias serving the Hispanic-Brazilians. It led to the entry into war of the USA against Brazil and Spain in October 1831.
The goal was to get their hands on Louisiana.
At this date the USA has 50,000 soldiers and 24 warships to oppose the Brazilians. However, in Louisiana and Florida there are only 5,000 Spaniards and 5,000 Brazilians as well as 14,000 French militiamen and 10,000 Indians. Louisiana is protected by a network of more or less fortified towns.
But when winter arrived, the Yankees attacked towards the south, St Augustine at the end of 1831. They were sharply repulsed by newly arrived Brazilian troops.
In the spring of 1832 the Brazilians brought 30,000 additional soldiers to the region using the Atlantic route but also prepared a Mexican route which made it possible to occupy Mexico.

In 1832 the Brazilians advanced in the south and penetrated slightly into Georgia but could not prevent the loss of Cape Giraudeau and St Louis. However, the Brazilians avoid being too aggressive. As a result, the Yankees are struggling to mobilize, with states reluctant to vote for additional credits. However, at the end of 1832 they had 100,000 men while there were now 70,000 Brazilians.
In the West, the Brazilians took advantage of the base they founded in 1811 in California, in San Francisco, to drive out the few English from the Pacific coast in 1832.
In August 1832 the Brazilians founded Port Marie Thérèse and installed 10,000 colonist soldiers to control the entire region.
