In 1830 the Brazilians had 80,000 soldiers and 200,000 sepoys (Indian soldiers) in India. Added to this are 20 warships and 16,000 sailors. The heart of the Brazilian defensive system is found around Pune and in Ceylon.
Opposite the English have 60,000 soldiers and 230,000 sepoys. Added to this are 16 warships and 13,000 sailors. The heart of the English defensive system is found in Bengal.
But from October 1830 a Brazilian fleet of 40 warships including 4 Paixhans frigates with 80 transports and 48,000 men left Brazil for India. The Brazilians will send regular reinforcements while the English are no longer capable of doing so after their defeat of Cape Spartel.
The English forces chose to retreat in good order to Bengal, offering a few fortresses to the Brazilians to take to gain time.

Thus the Brazilians captured Goa in November 1830, and Bombay in May 1831 after 6 months of siege. Madras fell in July 1831 a month after Hyerdarabad.
In October 1831 the Brazilians returned to the offensive in the Ganges valley (capture of Delhi in November 1831, of Lucknow in February 1832) and in the Dekkan with the capture of Vishakhapatnam in March 1832.
At the end of 1832 the Brazilians were at the gates of Patna. The English lost 70% of their domain in India and 50% of their population but only 10% of their force (60,000 soldiers and 210,000 sepoys).
The Brazilians accumulated 120,000 soldiers and 240,000 sepoys. The final assault on Bengal is being prepared but the English are very well entrenched.
