At the beginning of 1831 there were 60,000 Brazilian soldiers in southern Africa. Besides the Boers in the Brazilian territories there are 1,130,000 with potentially 100,000 armed militia hostile to the Brazilians.
The Boer Republic of Vrijland has 620,000 Boers and 120,000 half-breeds and a regular army of 20,000 men plus 60,000 militia.
The Portuguese of Natal number 180,000 with the mestizos and have 10,000 soldiers with two fortified cities: Delagoa and Porto Natal.
The Brazilians attacked first and invaded Portuguese Natal in January 1831. In 3 months the Portuguese colony was captured given the little strategic depth it had.
The Boers of Vrijland went on the attack in February 1831 and invaded the course of the Zambezi River, until then under Portuguese control, and gained access to the sea. The Brazilians let it happen.
For now the conflict ends there. The Brazilians do not want to engage the Boers for fear of triggering a general revolt. Boers are waiting for English intervention to act but after the defeat at Cape Spartel, this promise vanishes...
