On December 15, 1833, the Treaty of Lisbon was signed between Brazil and the United Kingdom. A second treaty concerns France and the Netherlands 1834.

In Europe, Spain, under Brazilian influence, annexes Portugal. Lisbon becomes the great Brazilian naval base in Europe to tame the English fleet. Spain also recovers Gibraltar.

The English also accept that the new queen of Spain, Isabella II (3 years old) be promised to the future king of the Bretons (Brazil), thus preparing the unification of the two kingdoms.

Consolation for the English who recovered the Azores, Madeira and part of the Portuguese colonies united in a puppet “kingdom of the Portuguese”.

In 1834 the Netherlands had to recognize the independence of Belgium as well as its new king, one of the sons of the king of France and the presence of French garrisons.

Thus Brazil managed to establish a solid foothold in Europe to neutralize English power overseas. The Spanish who recaptured Portugal lost in 1640 were satisfied even if many considered the Brazilian presence invasive.

The other European powers are indifferent apart from Prussia which especially fears France. Russia, on the contrary, will begin a rapprochement with Brazil which is now master of access to the Mediterranean. The goal is to take the central powers (Austria, Prussia) from behind which could threaten France and therefore subsequently Spain.
