In October 1915 the Brazilians launched their assault on Sudan and Egypt. The Argentines attacked Arabia from the Persian Gulf, whose oil resources they coveted.

The Brazilians and the Argentines mobilized 6 million soldiers in this campaign. The Anglo-Saxons had 2.5 million soldiers in the region, much less than the 5 million in Morocco, but who could not be transferred. Greece and Turkey joined them as reinforcements, although they had their own objectives.

The Brazilian forces easily broke through the English defenses in Sudan and Cyrenaica. The Argentines reached the Sinai by turning the English from the south.

But this progress was made at the cost of significant losses and in April 1916 the Anglo-Saxons managed to stabilize the front narrowly. Egypt is cut off from Ethiopia but there is still the Red Sea.

Meanwhile the English blockade in the Mediterranean was fading. The Brazilians had imported submarines which were waging a fierce war against the English fleet. Brazilian cargo submarines were thus able to begin supplying Spain and France, giving a welcome respite.
