Description

What if Brittany had still been independent when America was discovered?
Here is that story!

Unfortunately I have to stop the story of Vinland which is becoming too much to handle.
-----------------------
This alternate history is based on a character: Jean VI of Brittany.

We consider that the first son of Duke François II of Brittany (1458-1488), Jean, who died a few months after his birth in 1463, lived.
In order not to upset the timeline too much, we consider that he is sterile and that this is known from his childhood. Otherwise the marriage of his half-sister Anne (1477-1511) with King France Charles VIII (1483-1498) becomes less likely, which brings too many upheavals.
-----------------------

On June 29, 1463, Jean was born, the first and only legitimate son of Duke François II of Brittany. As soon as he is born, it is clear that he will be sterile because of a genital malformation. This data will try to be kept secret but will be exposed by the spies of the King of France. In addition, he suffers from a club foot which makes him lame. He lost his mother Marguerite de Bretagne (1443-1469) at the age of 6.

Introverted and complexed, he lives withdrawn into himself away from his father with whom he gets along badly. He often remains confined to the castle of Nantes to read various and varied books which make him a cultured person. However, he goes many times to the castle of Suscinio where he is interested in things of the sea.

He was married in 1485 to Anne of York (1475-1511) who was then only 10 years old. The marriage will never be consummated, Jean being impotent. His relationship with his half-sisters, Anne (1477-1514) and Isabeau (1481-1490) are quite good but the age difference comes into play. With his bastard half-brother, François Ier d'Avaugour (1462-1510), the agreement is not very good. He considers himself the eldest and is his father's favorite.
