The Brazilian government is pursuing the policy of empowering India. It is necessary to give it an industry and an ethnic base to enable it to resist alone against the enemy, in this case the English.

In the centre of the country, iron and coal mines are opened. Heavy industry and arms factories, including battleships, are installed.

The country is crisscrossed by railway lines. One of them goes to Russia, the historic ally. Citadels - the largest can house 200,000 men - are built in sensitive areas.

To consolidate the ethnic base, all the Hindu princes married members of the Brazilian "Family". The Muslim princes also converted to Catholicism.

The Sunni Muslims of the "core" were completely converted to Catholicism under penalty of deportation or death for the rebels. This was also the case in Afghanistan, whose particularly bloody conquest would last 10 years.

The Breton settlers, more or less mixed with the Indian elite, constituted the elite of the colony. The converts were the executives and specialized workers. Hindus, Shiites and others were the workers and peasants.

This brutal remodeling would leave a lot of resentment and in 1910 the whole was still fragile.
