The rebel regions including the majority of the arms industries, the power has no other choice but to recall troops to the north of the continent. But for fear of weakening the front against the USA, insufficient troops are sent. Thus precious time is lost. The rebels organize themselves and receive massive help from the English.

At the end of 1873, the government changed its mind and sacrificed the front against the USA to align 2,500,000 soldiers against 2,300,000 for the rebels supported by 300,000 English, not counting their fleet which held the coast.

It took the government almost a year to retake the central region. The reconquest ended with the capture of Guanabara in September 1874.

But during this time the southern rebels were able to extend their control over the entire south of the country. This region has always been marked by separatism dating back to the Principality of Argentina conquered in 1762.

The government narrowly saved the situation by pushing back the rebels from the south of Vertmont in July 1874, which would have cut Brazil off from Andean America.

At the end of 1874 the front stabilized following the general exhaustion of the belligerents. The civil war was particularly devastating.
