Conan XI reigned for only one year and died in 1854 in the middle of the division of the Ottoman Empire. His son Conan XII succeeded him at the age of 30. In 1848 he married Isabel II of Spain, thus preparing the union of Brazil and Spain. Spain then became a Brazilian satellite state.

Conan XII completed the division of the Ottoman Empire in 1856. Despite this easy victory which also made it possible to retake the Holy Land, Brazil was crossed by political movements which affected cities which had become enormous. The bourgeoisie demands more power and the workers more rights. Royal power and that of the Church are contested. The government responds with a mixture of repression and propaganda. Nationalism is exalted.

In 1856, Conan XII launched the construction of the Palace of Heroes in Ste Marianne. An immense building one nautical mile long (1852 m) by 233 m high comprising giant cast iron statues (100 m) of the main heroes of Breton Brazil. It is also a museum and a performance venue with a historical and nationalist vocation. It is open to all and free entries (stay and travel included) are offered to deserving subjects.

In 1870 Ste Marianne, the capital of Brazil, had 3,240,000 inhabitants. It is the largest city in the country and the second in the world after London (3,900,000 inhabitants). Besides, New York has only 940,000 inhabitants. At the time, it was the most surprising urban landscape in the world with its enormous monuments hugging the large rocks bordering the Ster ar Roc'h river.
