King Conan I is worried about the depletion of his mines. He eyed Potosi, which made Spain rich, but at that time it was in full decline. He took advantage of the War of Devolution which began in 1666 to attack.

Three offensives are carried out with a total of 14,000 soldiers, 4,000 carriers, 7,000 sailors, 70 ships, 50 river ships and 20,000 horses. Its main strength is its great logistical mastery in the heart of empty territories.
The Spanish Parana-Paraguay region is defended by 2,000 soldiers, 1,500 colonial militiamen and 6,000 Indian militiamen. Low value troops.

The first battle took place in Vila Rica on September 25, 1666. The meager Spanish forces were swept away. And on October 25, 1666, the Brazilians founded Port Iguaçu, which became the base for the invasion of Paraguay.

Buenos Aires being vulnerable, Argentine was founded in 1666 in the Uruguay estuary. Thousands of soldier settlers settled there.

The northern expedition descended the Paraguay and founded Vertmont at the end of 1666. The port was to be the invasion base towards Potosi. Then she joined Asunción in 1667 which is in fact already conquered.

Spain painfully mobilizes a fleet of 60 ships and 13,000 men. It only arrived in June 1668 in Buenos Aires, which she easily took back. It then attacks Argentine but is surprised by the size of the Brazilian troops of 11,000 men. Spaniards suffered a total defeat on June 25, 1668, the fleet was destroyed or captured. And Buenos Aires lost again.
