The 4th Brazilian War was particularly deadly. 7000 soldiers for the Bretons, 12,000 soldiers for the Dutch as well as 30,000 civilians or 49,000 dead in all.

The puppet prince, Jean II Marianne fled to Holland. Fort Maurice is renamed Fort Hercule in homage to Hercule de Rohan who died at the age of 86 in 1654.

The peace treaty signed in 1656 recognizes the Dutch commercial privileges but they must give up Brazil and no longer help the Spaniards of Port Conan.
The 48,000 Dutch Protestants are ordered either to leave or to convert. Half will convert to Catholicism, generally the poorest, 2,000 will return to Europe (the richest) and 20,000 will go into exile in southern Africa, which will take 5 years in total.

In May 1657, barely finished the war with Holland, Conan launches an attack against Port Conan defended by 3000 poor Spanish soldiers. He is accompanied by François Le Fur, son of Jean le Fur, "Regent" of New Brittany Le Fur, a puppet in the hands of Conan de Rohan.

The siege of Port Conan lasts barely a month, the city surrenders at the first breach.

Conan V has already fled to Spain. François le Fur becomes the new prince of the Bay under the name of François Ier.

On November 5, 1657, for the 157th anniversary of the founding of Port Conan, Conan de Rohan proclaimed the kingdom of Brazil of which he was the first sovereign: Conan I. He receives an oath of vassalage for the New Léon by his mother Marianne Iere and for the Bay by François Ier Le Fur.

50 years after the first war of Brazil which had divided New Brittany, this one is reunited under the new name of Brazil. It indicates that the colony now has the size to be a real power. Jean VI's vision is realized.

With 1,660,000 inhabitants in 1660, Brazil is a centralized, authoritarian and militarized state. The professional army then numbered 32,000 men, a colossal figure for the size of the country.
