The 1st Brazilian War (as the region was called after 1600) led to the break-up of New Brittany.

In 1621 Brazil was then divided into six entities:
- Portuguese Pernambuco under Spanish control: 137,000 inhabitants. including 92,000 whites and mestizos (Portuguese).
- New Brittany Le Fur under Spanish control with Prince Conan V Le Fur (19 years old). There are 167,000 inhabitants. including 137,000 whites and mestizos (Bretons).
- Independent NewBrittany Marianne with Prince Conan III Marianne (57 years old). There are 413,000 inhabitants (54% of whole Brazil). including 343,000 whites and mestizos (a third are Breton).
- New Brittany Avaugour under French control with Prince François II Avaugour (40 years old). There are 17,500 inhabitants. including 12,500 whites and mestizos (Bretons and French).
- The English base at Bonport has a population of 9,000 including 6,000 whites and half-breeds (English and Bretons).
- The Dutch base of Fort Maurice has 24,000 inhabitants. including 15,000 whites and mestizos (Dutch).

In total Brazil has 767,500 inhabitants. including 605,500 whites and mestizos. Besides the Spanish Empire brings together 310,000 whites and mestizos, much less.
Colonization is also different. The Spanish colonists often live in towns of the work of the Indians. In Brazil, settlers are often peasants.

Economically all of Brazil revolves around the mines of New Brittany Marianne which provide around 20 tons per year.
Pernambuco and New Brittany Le Fur provide food for the miners. The French of St Yves send Indian slaves. The English, the French and especially the Dutch import goods, African slaves and settlers.

In all, New Brittany Marianne received almost 340,000 settlers in 20 years. The origin of different European countries creates a patchwork of heterogeneous population in which the Bretons of America are a minority (136,000 in total or 33%). Germanics (Germans, Scandinavians and Flemish) are 77,000 (18.6%).

The power of Conan III, known as “Iron Hand”, is absolute. Only Catholicism is allowed.
He relies on the community of Bretons of America who monopolize all the important positions. The Prince controls 35% of the mines, the Bretons 55% and the others barely 10%.
The army of 12,000 men is very well equipped and paid. 4000 are American Bretons; 4000 others are Irish, 2000 Bretons and 2000 French. It is the mainstay of the regime.

Official language is French although Conan III tried to impose Celto-Brazilian. He had to give it up for lack of officials who could master it.
