Description

What if Brittany had still been independent when America was discovered?
Here is that story!

-----------------------
On December 11, 1526, Jean VI died of pneumonia in his castle of Suscinio. He was then 63 years old and reigned 38 years.

It is therefore François III d'Avaugour who succeeds Jean VI under the title of François Ier, Prince of New Brittany. He was then 14 years old.
The Duchy of Brittany goes to the wife of the King of France. It will be given to France in 1532. However the private domain of the duke belongs to François III d'Avaugour.

The body of Jean VI was embalmed and sent to Port Conan where he was buried in Ste Anne Cathedral in August 1527. The building, made of wood, then began its reconstruction in stone.

François III d'Avaugour is also the adopted son of Jean VI. Widowed since 1511, he married in 1517 Madeleine d'Astarac (1494-1547), the widow of his nephew François II d'Avaugour (1493-1517) and the mother of those whom Jean VI saw as his successors: François (born in 1512) and Jean (born in 1514). He takes care of their education personally.

The European domain, known as the Avaugour domain, had around 300,000 inhabitants in 1526 and brought in 45,000 TL. However, François is not completely sovereign in this area and the King of France can deploy troops, levy taxes, enact his laws...

On the other hand, François is totally sovereign over New Brittany and its 34,400 inhabitants. It earns him 17,000 LT mainly thanks to the sugar. It's still not much, but the Prince's goal will be to increase income by developing production. Investment in the settlement and defense of the principality will be reduced to a minimum.
