Map 38

-----------------------

In 1500 Southern Vinland had 5,220,000 inhabitants. against 24,000,000 before the arrival of Europeans in 1350.

The colonial population, white and metis, is 1,038,000 inhabitants or 20%. The vast majority is Norman, they are 977,000 against 10,000 English and 51,000 Castilians.

Normandite alone controls 3,419,000 inhabitants, or 65% of the continent. The presence of the colonial population is particularly important in Marianne where the whites and mestis are now much more numerous than the Indians: 397,000 against 210,000. The colonial power favored the settlement of the highlands to constitute a point of support on this strategic region.
Three-quarters of the settlers are now peasants, the Indians not being numerous enough to support the large colonial population.
The economy is still focused on the exploitation of the mines of Chimu, Potosi in the first place, but an autonomous economy appears in the north.

Castile controls 101,000 inhabitants or only 2%. It begins to use African slaves imported directly from West Africa. They are 20,000 in 1500 against 30,000 Indian slaves.
The economy is mainly oriented towards the cultivation of sugar cane for export.

Finally, there are approximately 1,700,000 free natives (33%) who try to flee from missionaries, epidemics and slave traders.

This series is stunning. Could you share a little about the etymology of those colony names?
